Unless a UT guy has a shot at it. Check this out:
Johnny Majors, runner up to Paul Hornung. Notre Dame went 2-8 that year.
Notre Dame's Fifth Heisman Trophy: Paul Hornung (1956) // Moments // 125 Football // University of Notre Dame
Look at Watson's 2015 season. Dude threw for over 4,000 yards and 35 TDs while rushing for another 1,100 and 12 TDs.
Those are ridiculous stats en route to leading his team to a 14-1 season...and he came in third place!
Dobbs could win it, but it's unlikely.
He would need a minimum stat line of around 2,750 yards passing, 25 TDs, and very few INTs. Add in another 600-700 yards rushing and 10 TDs on the ground. The offense simply isn't designed for him to put up the numbers usually necessary for Heisman consideration.
Then he would need epic performances against UF, UGA, A&M, and Bama where he hoists the team on his shoulders and wills it to victory.

I will say that Dobbs' impeccable reputation as a student athlete could give him an edge when it's time to vote. The Manning snub could work out in his favor as well. But he needs to have a huge season to even be in consideration.
"You're so-o vain, I bet you think this thread is about you. Don't you?"
No D4H, this thread is about the real Dobbs. Gotcha!
Anyways to the point. I have seen several threads and articles calling Hurd our "dark horse" Heisman candidate this offseason, but little-to-none of the same love given to Joshua Dobbs. This puzzles me for a couple of reasons:
1. Josh Dobbs is our QB. If anybody from UT wins the trophy it will be because we will have had an outstanding season (great players on bad teams do not win.)In order for us to have a great season, Dobbs, more so than anybody, will need to have a stellar season. If he does not elevate his game significantly, we will not have the season necessary for a Heisman win.
2. Hurd is a RB, meaning his chances of winning are much less than that of a QB. Additionally, Hurd will be splitting time significantly with Kamara, meaning his numbers will not be as impressive as those of a say, Leonard Fournette (although IMO Hurd is a more complete back.)
So what do you guys think? If we have an amazing season, who is more likely to win the Heisman? Dobbs or Hurd?
Dude you know the rules, never use a player or posters name only for a thread title. I thought something bad could've happened and D4H could've been arrested outside of Josh Dobbs' apartment for say... I don't know stalking. The items recovered from his vehicle were night vision goggles, chloroform, rope, a big sheet of plastic and a bag of lime. Thank goodness that didn't happen.
Excellent points. Watson put up significantly better numbers for the #1 team in the country and finished 3rd. Huge uphill climb for Josh.
I couldn't possibly care less about the heisman. All I care about is Josh getting to the numbers you mentioned above....if he does that, we're very likely in Atlanta in early December and that's much more important IMHO than Dobbs being in NewYork soon thereafter.
Watson doesnt play in the SEC. Dominating the SEC gets you more attention. Fournette led the heisman race most of the year then Henry took over after outplaying him.
Dominate the SEC and you stand a good chance to win the heisman.
But Watson sure did dominate Alabama in the NC game last year to the tune of 400+ yards passing and 4 TD's. And rushed for 73 yards.
So tell me how Watson wouldn't dominate the SEC again???
I know you like arguing with me but could you stop lying about what I say?
Or if you're not lying, improve your reading comprehension skills. Cause I never said or implied what you just posted.
I never said anything about Watson not being able to dominate in the SEC. I was simply responding to KBVol's argument that Watson didn't win the heisman even with incredible numbers.
I said dominating the SEC gets you more attention from heisman voters. What hurt Watson last year was he played in the ACC and was not the focus of national attention all year. If Dobbs dominates the SEC as much as Watson dominated the ACC, he doesn't have to worry about getting national attention.
I never said or implied Watson couldn't dominate the SEC. So either stop lying or improve your reading comprehension.
First off, you are ALWAYS the one implying that no one outside the SEC is worthy of anything because they don't PLAY in the SEC. You didn't come right out and say it, but you were sure implying it. Not to mention you have said as much in other threads.
Second, my reading comprehension is quite well thank you very much.
Why would I lie about what you say? It's on blast for the whole world to see anyways.
