Do you think the players hate the other teams as much as we hate them?

I will be honest. I hate every team in the SEC besides my VOLS. The trolls that come on here and flap there gums and talk all this non-sense because we had a bad year and stuff really makes me hate them even more. LOL I guess its my passion for TN. I am not the one to try and fight fans or anything I usually keep to myself unless provoaked and then I usually have stats to back up my comments to make them feel dumb. But I was just wondering what you all thought about if the players have the hate for other teams like us.

I was wondering who you all hated the most.

I would say I hate FL the most but Bammer isn't far behind.

I don't like any other NCAA team in the states. I could care less if they all folded their programs.

The only team I hate is bama. I passionately route against many other teams, but bama is the only one I hate. I doubt players hate other teams as much as we do, they may have friends that play for some of those teams and may wish them well when they don't play UT. That and I don't think the players have time to focus on other teams or their fans.

bama is #1 on my rival I love to beat and see get beat closely followed by fla...probably has to do with the coaching and the fact fla whips our tails far too often.

as to players and hating opponents...it has been many years since I played but I did not get into the strong feelings about rival teams as much as I got into strong feelings about certain rival players.

things have changed a lot in 40 years, but my guess is the players don't get near as jacked as we fans do. when I played I often looked into the stands and asked "Why are all those folks screaming and worried," but once I joined them in the stands I realized my lack of control on the outcome really influenced my emotions as a fan. I only played at the high school level but 40 years ago things in Indiana got very very heated especially in basketball...I never played in a gym that was not full, and full of as passionate fans as any I have encountered at Neyland or Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

I also think players are more concerned about their performance than who they are up against, for the most part. Great players, i.e. the Mannings, Berry's et al are so competitive they could be playing their mothers and going for blood regardless of the uniform color or insignia. GO VOLS

to answer your thread title---NO.

if TN's players hated LSU/UF/Auburn/Alabama like I hate them, we'd never beat any of them by less than 30 points.

Having played HS football on a Hugely rivalry built conference, I feel I can safely say that the players wish pain and suffering on other schools.

As for me, I hope Gainesville burns to the ground, the state of Florida breaks off the continental US and sinks to the bottom of the ocean, never to be heard from again. After I leave of course.

I could care less about Bama... but god I hate Florida

Coming in, I don't think they normally hate the schools much. You have to remember a lot of them have a hard time deciding between a rival school and UT. If something happens during the recruiting process, I think that's when a player hates a team. I don't think guys hate a team or group of players just because of what's on their chests.

I would be willing to bet the juniors and seniors on this team have a pretty healthy disdain for UF and bama given the past 2 years results in those given games

I think it's a living in Gator Country thing. I grew up during the days that Bama owned us and I cheer for them unless they are playing the Vols. I hate the Gators I never cheer for them in anything.

i think freshman that come from say out west that dunno much about tennessee's rivals dont really have a opinion on them. but once they get to be sophmores on up is when the hate comes in

I stayed with Josh Briscoe about two weeks ago and the answer to your question is no... Yes, I did actually ask him that exact question... From what I gather only players that have dreamed of playing for UT their whole lives like Kevin Revis would share our hatred... But if you look at it thru most of the players eyes, they werent UT fans before coming to school so they dont share our hatred... I do think they know which games are more important to us tho, and they def gather a feel for the rivalries... But I dont think they nesasarily hate any teams.

I believe the hatred is more of a territorial thing. Those that grew up close to Bammer want to see us beat Bammer the most, as Florida residents want us to beat the gators. I grew up in Chattanooga and I absolutely hate Georgia with a passion. I cannot stand their ignorant fans and all their idiodic arguments. Therefore, I root against Georgia every game even if they play a non SEC opponent. GO VOLS!!!

Sooo.....Josh Briscoe doesn't share our hatred for UT's rivals. What a shocker....I guess that explains him having a ball on the sidelines while Bama kicked our ass last year.

Thanks for summing up Briscoe's lack of passion and his underwhelming college career in such a succinct post. :good!:

I'm with you. my two favorite teams are the Vols and anyone playing they Gators. THE mopst obnoxious fans on the face of the earth.

I have been hating Alabama for almost twice as long as the incoming freshman have been alive. I've been hating Florida since they were in diapers. So, no way.

I wouldn't consider Josh Briscoe as a reliable source. He's already said that he has no allegiance to the University of Tennessee.

Briscoes a great person dude you have no right to say otherwise. He gave his all for Tennessee last year on and off the field. Just because he doesnt hate Bama or Florida doesnt mean he doesnt want the W just as bad.

Not to pile on, because I don't know him, but I can't imagine someone who truly gives their all laughing on the sideline while getting blasted by an arch-rival. I'll take your word that he's a great guy, but most of the press he's gotten doesn't project him bringing a championship attitude to our program.

Eric Berry, Al Wilson, John Henderson, Travis Stephens, JJ McKlesky, etc.... those are guys who left it all on the field, mentally and physically.

How does one earn the right to call Briscoe what he is - a mercenary football player?

His all was mighty thin. His actions and words didn't sound like a guy bent on winning.
