Rugby players aren't physical enough for this brand of football :)

UT has an awesome rugby team. i know we need fullbacks and rugby players are perfect for that

would you put a scrumhalf in at fullback in the SEC? or a flyhalf for that matter? just a couple of examples...

also, remember, there's no blocking in rugby, so fullback might be a timely transition.

not saying some ruggers won't fit the bill, but fullback is a BIG role that doesn't suit most rugby players...

I played in high school at a power house rugby school. The only guy on the team that played football was only used on dead ball plays to run threw waves of guys but besides that he wasn't that great. Well Unless he got free running after a over sized line where our line out numbered theirs and it was him and a 150 pound guy. then he just trucked him. He got a scholly to West point but hated the planned out life style. But honestly big guys play power positions and arent there for speed and the speedy guys arent built for football. So no. At Ole Miss where they didnt have size they needed big uglies. UT doesnt need walk ons to make us a power house team.

What if football players played rugby? Can you imagine Jamal Lewis out there running around and people trying to bring him down without pads. That could get ugly. Haha

My sister played rugby for Team USA a couple of years ago. She's an upcoming senior at UT...so she's got eligibility left.

Where did you play?

I agree that they are just two different sports. There are a few guys that could switch between the two, but most of those guys are running backs from football or Flankers/8-men from rugby. Not many of the other football or rugby positions would translate to the other IMO.
