Do you think Butch is irreplacible?

I guess if you want to give him credit for going 2-2 vs Vandy you can add that to his list of accomplishments.

He gets blame for that. I do give him credit for ending the Florida streak and getting back to back wins over Ga, beating Spurrier out of coaching. Multiple bowl wins too.

Butch needs to get better!

Go Vols!

Everyone is replaceable

Even "great" coaches make poor decisions in big games from time to time, see Saban vs Aub, attempted FG,
Pete Carroll, not running Lynch in Superbowl, Belicek,
going for it on 4th down, when he did not need to. You can go on and on. It happens to the best.

It does.....once in a blue moon. How many times has BJ sh** the bed the last two seasons?

0-3 against muschump

1-3 against Florida

1-1 against donkey teeth

0-4 against bama and was blew out at home this season

2-2 against Georgia

Hasn't beat a team from the west

Blew big leads against Oklahoma and Florida last season in the fourth quarter.

Lost to a high school quarterback

Pissed away the SEC east the last 2 years

2-2 against Vanderbilt

That's quite a resume

I'm as po'd as everyone else about the losses and this season, and I'm not happy w/ 8-4, but if 8-4 is the train wreck so many are saying, then the last 10 years must have been pure torment and misery. I don't know how you count the first two years in serious overall consideration, knowing the crap sandwich he inherited (Neyland couldn't have done any better w/ those teams). Do you remember looking at the schedule 3-4 years ago and trying to justify how MAYBE we could make it to a bowl game? It's fair to judge the last two years, w/ some good and some atrocious.

Are there better coaches out there that would do better than Butch? Yes.A re they willing to come to UT. Not likely.
Despite the fact that they are better coaches than Butch, are they guaranteed to have more success than Butch? Not likely.

It's like dating a girl that's a solid 7 with an ass that's a perfect 10. Butch coaches at a 7 but recruits at 10. Sure you might could drop her and try to pull a 9 or 10 but the 9's &10's ain't callin' and their ass is probably going to get fat.

More like we're dating a 3.5 that we're afraid to break up with because we're scared we're never going to get laid again if we do. So to make ourselves feel better, we tell ourselves Butch is a 7.

Hell no, just like 2011 dooley gone in 2012,2017 will be same for butch is we go 5-7, people will be happy if he got fired, people be happy if he stayed til 2018, it's a mixed bad so any comment could sound like a nega vol, :blue/white/perrywinkle: font

I wouldn't want a replacement. I want an upgrade.

An 8 year old on dope could do a better job than what we have. Butch jones snake oil sales pitch has been exposed. He can't fool the university, Media or the recruits anymore. He ain't smart enough to come up with a new lie. We are getting buried brick by brick as long as he is here.

How NSD turns our will be the best indicator of how the Butch saga ends. Along with the coaching changes JAV covered in another thread, how 2017 plays out is still a wait and see.

It seems it's been settled that Butch is here for 2017.

Go Butch, make it happen!

Win the bowl!

I don't. Stay or go, I think we are in for it next season. I hope I'm wrong.

I've seen some Vols fans declare that the Vols will be loaded for 2017, but I just don't see it, my guess would be a 5-6 win season looking at the roster and schedule.....barring a miracle of sorts:good!:

Yes, the last hire of Butch was very important for the programs future. Too early to make another change. If the administration (non-existant) decides to hire a top coach and pay top dollar then my opinion would change. I don't think that is ever going to happen which leaves us with a coach with 4 years of on the job training. I don't see the point in hiring another unqualified coach and seeing how he fares in the SEC. Don't say "no qualified coach would come here". Sabin going to Bama proves that statement wrong. He could be here at UT had the UT administration been so inclined not to take no for an answer.

Same story at Bama when they signed Sabin but there he is. Any coach can be had if you want them bad enough. Our administration has decided to go the up and commer route hoping for a miracle. Coaches in all UT sports are 2nd level except for basketball where they are over the hill.

Maybe the OP was asking if it was possible to hire a worse coach?

I've had time to take a few deep breaths since Saturday night and I'm a little calmer now.

CBJ isn't irreplaceable but we can't go off half cocked either.

What I would like to see is a situation somewhat like CDS has in Clemson.

Let CBJ be the ambassador, the motivator, the face of the program. The guy who sits in a recruits living room and makes Mama and Daddy and Grandma feel good.

Let the coordinators game plan and coach. I think we want innovative geniuses at the coordinator positions. Spare no expense in bringing in coordinators that make other coaches lose sleep.

Position coaches must be on the same page as the coordinators, but they also have to coach their positions. Yes, at least two changes have to be made there NOW!

I know CBJ is too much of a control freak to ever go along with this, but I really think it's the best solution at the moment.

Who the hell is CBJ, CDS ect?

None of their first names are "Coach", you Jughead.

Oh course we could hire a worse coach. They did that when they hired Dooley. Next time you want to be sarcastic, think it out first. Try something new and exciting.

Barnes is glorified second level.

If you are going to quote someone here, don't make it Uncle Lou.

And if you want him gone, pony up the cash. Oh, you don't have it? Well, how do you think the donors would react to your rant? Would they fork out the cash, or grip it tighter?

Psychology wasn't your major, was it?

So who is this magical, Sabanesque coach that you have culled from the herd that's a guaranteed home run hitter? Where is this mythical beast of a man? Who is this Jesus like coaching figure with a proven winning track record in a conference that is parallel to the SEC? Urban Meyer is the closest thing I know of and he literally collapsed at his last SEC coaching stint under the weight of having to play Mark Richt, Steve Spurrier, and Derrick Dooley year in and year out.

Why don't we hire Tubberville? He has a record of beating Bama, has coached in the SEC, has won a National Championship, and is looking for a job........
