Do you thing Cuonzo has questioned his job security at any point?

I don't think Martin's job is in jeopardy as much as some here do---right or wrong. Considering where his salary ranks in the conference compared to the number of games he's won, Cuonzo has been a good value for the athletic department---although you could argue the impact of ticket and memorabilia sales on the bottom line.

Regardless of my opinion, I just wonder if Cuonzo has felt at any point like his job is on the line?

I heard a comment com him the other night in response to Maymon and some other players sticking up for him in the media and he responded with:

"They don't need to fight, there's nothing to fight about. We are playing basketball and winning ball games. We keep moving. Anything outside of that I don't waste time and energy on it."

Thoughts?

I certainly hope he's too busy coaching this team to have time to keep up with media discussion regarding his job security.

To his credit, he seems to be a man at peace with himself and his Maker.

To go through what he went through and to overcome it probably puts a lot of the temporal things in life (like coaching) in a whole different perspective.

It's hard to get a pulse out of him any time. I would hope that he was aware of the situation and cared that he has lost the fan base's desire to have him as UT's coach. Really, what is he suppose to say though. There's a petition that has spread through the media like wild fire to bring back the coach that drug UT through the mud. There are fans hoping that he loses his next game just so he will be fired. Nothing he can really say at this point.

He would have to be delusional if he hasn't worried that his job was on the line.

His kind of success might have been acceptable if he was following Buzz but following Bruce makes his lack of tourney appearances stand out like a sore thumb.

I really am worried now that we sneak in to the tourney this year and Hart extends him when any knowledgeable person can see the train wreck coming that is next year's team.

I am torn because I want us in the tourney and that's all we can ask a coach to do, but looking at what he has recruited for the future is down right scary.

I've heard others say next year's team is a train wreck, but I actually think they can make some noise.

Darius, Stokes, Richardson, Hubbs, Moore, new comers. Who knows they may be alright.

if he hasn't thought about what would happen not reaching the ncaa tourney this year, much less what will happen if he made it to next year, he isn't thinking too far ahead.

Maybe he hasn't though. He's been slow to make some moves and changes each and every year. Seems to almost wait until it's too late or close to it to make things happen.

You don't fire a coach who wins 20 games

Some here have Bruce Pearl cologne on their balls

Say we lost one of the last 3 and don't go this year, again. Are you saying you don't fire a coach who doesn't go to the ncaa 5 years in a row because he wins 20 games each year in one of the worst leagues in D1?

Trust me, he is aware of it. He has to have family members, church members, neighbors, members of his coaching staff, current players and childhood friends who read articles from the newspaper, on the internet, on ESPN.com, etc. etc.

I am sure some of them have mentioned this to him. The wise thing for him to do is to control what he can control and not focus on other things.

Focus on having your team ready for each game and get them motivated to play each game. That is what he can control.

Worst case scenerio, he will get fired, and will land a job at another mid major university or one of his Purdue friends ( Stallings at Vandy) will put him on their staff for a season until he can land another job. Not the end of the world for him of his family!!!!

351 teams in NCAA D1. In a down year, there are still 5 SEC teams in the top 50 BPI index.

Don't you think that's a bit extreme?

If the fact that 25 - 30k of basketball fans (of the team he currently coaches) have signed a petition wanting a former coach to return, and articles have been written in national pubs about said petition haven't caused him to question his status....then he's dumber than he looks in the last 30 secs of most ballgames.

He does keep up with some of it because he admitted to hearing Maymon's comments on the radio.

But media discussion aside, just from a pure performance aspect, do you think he's ever considered the idea that he may not be meeting the expectations of the university and worried that his job may be in jeopardy?

One would think he and Hart talk about goals and expectations from time to time. Hopefully he and the AD are on the same page...of course, stranger things have happened at UT.

And it's difficult to fire a guy because it looks like a future team "might" be a train wreck. Although, I'm in the camp who questions if Martin can have success with next year's roster.

I remember when we hoped to win 10 games in a season, so winning 20 and being on the verge of the NCAA Tourney is not what I consider firing material

If Hart tells Martin that everything is fine and his job is not necessarily in jeopardy, then why would he be concerned about some fans who signed a petition or some writer trying to get his article read?

My point is that IF Hart has given Martin a vote of confidence, then why worry about national pubs or signed petitions????

He may not be worried!!!!!!!!!!
