Do you pull for SEC teams? (Merged . . . again and again)

seriously, you see the need to jump on everyone's back who wants to see our conference be successful? Just root for UT & your #2 team ND and be happy.

Honestly, I had rather he rooted for ND. That way the crying will begin when our conference rivals, LSU, whip their Irish butts.

just trying to get you guys at the big picture. Most of these recruits arent smart enough to sit at home and use strength of conference as a way of picking a school.

Glad to see you think our recruits are stupid. How do you know what they're thinking when they pick a school?

edit: 7 of the top 14 recruiting classes at this point are SEC schools. I'd say that paints a pretty good picture of where the kids want to play.

Yes! How many times do you have to bring this up? Any school, be it SEC, or out of conference, that we play needs to win. Kids at home think of such things, and that plays into where they want to go to school. If we beat winners, it is so much better than beating losers. If every team we play loses, how good does that make us look by beating them?:eek:k:

My thoughts exactly, a strong showing by SEC teams in the bowls is welcome here.

Honestly, I have not seen one Gator fan on this board that is not pulling for the Vols. Matter of fact, on all of the SEC boards I visit, they are rooting for the Vols. Maybe you have an attitude that causes the UF fans around you to pull against us. Just a thought.

I dont like Tenn the best out of all SEC teams, but I sure hope they kick the **** out of PSU. Just as I hope all SEC teams can win their bowl games, kinda like a "honor thy neighbor" look at things.

Are you 10 years old? Of course they look at the schools they are interested in, and whether they win or lose. You may want a kid on a team you pull for that is clueless as to the opponents........not me. Geez. Your Oreos are getting stale, and your milk is getting sour.

thanks GoHoGs, I'll be hoping the Piggies spank Wisconsin as well. :salute: DMac has such an awesome showing that he decides to jump for the NFL early.

Thanks! I will be rooting for the Hogs, as well. I will say that I have no love lost on any SEC rival. But, I can think of no out of conference team worthy of me rooting for to beat any SEC team. Well, maybe Bama......lol.

Wow...the Dawgs mad a heck of a comeback. I thought for sure they were done. Alright SEC, lets do it again Monday.

Good choice of topic, although this one thread may not do the topic enough justice. We may need more!

I swear, I just spit tea all over my cat when seeing this. She is mad at me now, and I don't blame her. I am still laughing. This is getting almost as out of hand as the Fulmer threads. Still fun. We will never change another person's opinion. That is what makes it fun.

BTW, ask blaker, he is the know all of how we should all feel.:birgits_giggle:

The reason the Gator fans appear to be rooting for the Vols is the same reason that most UT fans appear to root for Kentucky over Clemson. Basically, they do not see us as much of a threat and given Fulmer's dismal record over the Gators I can't say I blame them for their haughtiness.

There is absolutely no reason to support UF. First, there is NO extra shared revenue for UT if UF wins. The payout is predetermined before they ever play the game so those who have brought that up as their justification are laboring under false pretenses. Second, the strength of schedule component was removed from the BCS calculations so it's not like a UF win is going to help UT next season. While the strength of schedule may remain a factor for individual voters in the two major polls, this is the end of the season so it's not going to advance the Vol's cause one lick. Basically, the strength of schedule jusitification is a straw man.

I have also seen the esoteric notion of conference pride used for UT fans to support the Gators. When I was a kid you never heard the "S-E-C" chant at UT football games. This is something that the conference bottom feeders latched onto in order to provide some sense of self worth. The idea being that if you suck as a participant in the toughest conference, maybe you really don't suck so bad compared to other teams in other conferences. When the Vols strap 'em on and line it up they are not playing for the SEC. They are playing for UT, the state of Tennessee that suports the university, and their fans. THAT'S IT!

Finally, I've even seen a couple of posts where people seem to think that they will get some type of bragging rights if UF wins because they will be able to say that UT came within a point of beating the national champions. To me that's like saying I drew 22 on a big hand in blackjack. It's still a loss and nobody is going to care. Try tossing that 1-point line out to a Gator fan and you'll probably get hit with a comeback about Air Force.

Most of the Gator fans who visit here regualry are nice, civil folks and I'm not trying to antagonize anyone but there is no way in hades that I will ever root for the Gators unless a UF win is necessary for UT to win the SEC East and even then I'm more interested in the other team losing than I am in UF winning.

Agreeed, some Badger fans and other big 10 fans are whining about how the rule about how only letting 2 teams in from each conference into the BCS screwed Wisconsin over... I said the only reason they had one loss is because they played in the Big 10 and didn't have to play OSU, and that is when they started claiming they were the best conference.... I guess they fail to realize that outside of the top 2, no team in the big 10 has beaten a currently ranked team.

Well when you live in Big 10 country, there is nothing I want more then to see their teams crash and burn miserably in bowl season...

Personally, I had a similiar dilema in '98 when you guys were playing FSU for the NC. For weeks I thought I would be pulling for FSU due to our lose to UT on that missed FG in overtime. 2 minutes into the game, I started going for the Vols. Then again, UT doesn't "hate" OSU like the UF does FSU.

I guarantee for me I hate OSU much more...

If OSU played Bama, and Bama won, I would sing Rammer Jammer with the only Bammers I know.
