Do you have a pool?

My Dad just put a salt system in. It is great. All you do is test the water and then turn a dial up or down depending on whether you need more or less chlorine extracted from the salt.

Can you open your eyes under water? Or is it like the ocean?

The water has a definite salty taste to it, but the salt level is low enough that it won't burn your eyes.

I guess that makes it "Ocean-Lite".

My neighborhood has community pools, which is not a bad way to go. The yearly dues are higher but you dont have to take care of the pool either.

we spent $19,500 for an 18x36 inground vinyl and we added a slide and a diving board and a larger concrete patio so after it was all said and done with inspections and hiring electrician and county people it came to around $22, maybe $22,500. And it took him about three months to complete... It should have been done in 6 weeks.

Two things, the first being, the guy that did it was the step father of a buddy so it took longer and he kind of tried to half a a few things, for example the cover and the auto cleaner.

The second thing, my son swims every single day and he has his little friends over all the time and i would pay pretty much anything to keep my kids entertained, plus i get to have my mommy friends over and we break out the margaritas, it's been a very good thing for us. But be prepared, when you tell people you are putting one in everyone will say things like "we just walk to our community pool, it's like all the fun with none of the work" or "i have friends that never ever use their pools, it's a big waste of $$$" people can be so stupid.

For everyone that's putting all those chemicals in their pool , you need to check into FLOATRON . Our pool is the same as Niss'es 18 by 36 and we might use 1 tablet of chlorine in a week. We only use shock after a rain and that's because of a 75 year old oak tree 15' from the pool . Every time it rains it causes the sap , dust , and anything else on the tree to go in the pool . I used to hate it because of the of cleaning , but now I love it. :good!:

I dont know exactly how it works but it's solar powered and sends a small electrical shock into the water killing everything in its path It costs about $300.00 but isn't advertised much . If it were , the sale of chemicals would drop drastictly. ( and the pool stores profits )

Somebody asked me the other day about what it would cost to install a pool. Any idea of a price range?

Looks like the VN must be doing pretty good :hi:

Who'd have thought my thoughtful insights would pay for a pool for Freak

My house came with an in-ground concrete pool, and it's going to be the death of me. That is if I cannot get it filled in first :) Have problems with leaks, and it needs constant repairs. To me it isn't worth the trouble, give me a hot tub any day.

Right after I bought my house (with the first pool I have ever had) I went to a local pool store and prefaced my question by telling the employee that it was my first pool. I then said "Let me ask you some advice". The guy behind me in line said, "I have some advice. Fill it and make it a nice planter."

That is exactly what I told my wife we should do with it when we bought the house, and you see who won that discussion.

Anyone use a hot tub as a pool? I've considered this route if I can find a gi-normous hot tub.

I have a friend that had a pool at his house and he would invite my family and me over to swim in the summer. The next spring I went by his house for a visit and his back yard was grass. I asked what happened to the pool and he said he got tired of the upkeep, fixing crumbling concrete and other irritants so he filled it up with dirt and now it's a lawn.
