Because of the Civil War, or because we talk funny, or what? I have 2 great friends from the Army that live in Knox Couty, and they have no answers. So, in the anonymity of the internet, tell me why you hate me for being from north of the Ohio and Potomac Rivers.

I think it's funny how you asked a question "Do you hate Yankees" and then assumed we all do and wanted to know why.

I don't hate Yankees at all and I've never even been what I would consider "up North". I've been to Ohio but that's as far North as I've been. Every place is going to have it's good and bad people. It's not fair to judge any region based on some guy you know or stereotypes or anything like that. Look at me being all hospitable.

And I hope to God I'm speaking for everyone when I say that I think we've moved on from the Civil War...

I don't think most Southerners hate yankees anymore. I know that the further back you go the more Southerners hated yankees. Yes, because of the War between the states. I don't think many people today realize how horrible that four year period was, or how humiliating reconstruction was to the South.

Today I think we (Southerners) like to distinguish ourselves from those from other parts of the country, as I am sure other regions like to distinguish themselves. It is nothing personal but sometimes may seem like prejudice.

I dont judge anyone , but I have formed opinions over the years ! ( FIRST OFF ) I dont hate anyone , but the people that I have met from up north ( just the ones I've met mind you ) have been loud and obnoxious , which when mixed with the northern accent gives me the impression everyone is this way . I'm know this is not true and I really havn't met that many of YOU GUYS , also i've met the same type of people from the south so to think someone hates you because your from another part of OUR country is just plain silly
:peace2:

The sweet tea thing is the only thing that gets to me. Other than that, you're okay in my book.

The food is definately better south of the mason-dixon. Far as the accent goes truthfully as ugly as I am it's gotten me far more attention from the northern ladies than any negative responses from any northerner. We're all Americans now.

Aside from pizza, cheese steaks, hot dogs, brats, cheese cake, beer, buffalo wings, chowder, and Italian food...

I've lived in the North longer than the South, and I work with and have met nothing but great people in the North. I think I'm starting to pick up the Burgh accent.

I tell you why, because seems like every time a Yankee opens their mouth, they seem to always say, "Well up north, we do it like..." Hey, nobody cares how you do it up North! If you don't like the way we do things, then you can leave.

Also, you guys come down here and jack up land/home values and then try to bring your high taxes with you.

Tellico has yankees crawling around out there like cockroaches. Made me sick to go into a bar in West Knoxville back in October and see the bar filled with a bunch of screaming Red Sox trash... disgusting!

I'd agree with this. Most of my friends here are from the north -- New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, etc. -- and I just don't need to hear how much better X was up north anymore. If things were better, then go the F home. I don't care where anyone's from, but shut up about how much better it is everywhere else. Move.

Plus everyone from the north who moves down here needs to calm down just a little bit. About five years ago I was third in line at a red light in downtown Atlanta. The exact freaking SECOND the light turned green, the car in front of me laid on the horn HARD because the guy at the front of the line didn't move immediately. So the guy in the front got out of his car, walked part way back to the guy behind him, and yelled, "SHUT UP AND GET YER YANKEE ASS BACK UP TO THE NORTH!" That pretty well summed it up for me.

Wow, this is not a sweeping generalization or anything...

Sweeping generalizations are still fine as long as they're not based on race, gender, handicap, religion, or preference of orifice -- right? Discrimination based upon carpetbagger status is still fine, I believe. Unless I missed a memo.
