Just heard this on local radio. A local guy (Memphis) said he can't imagine that anyone actually hates Phillip Fulmer as a person.

However, he said, he knows that people hate him as their football coach.

So let's put it to you VN. Do you hate Phillip Fulmer?

As your football coach?

As your AD?

As a person?

I don't hate anybody. Many on here obviously do. MH also needed to go, but I'm not singing hallelujah in the hills. Gotta stay even keel. Phil just needed to go and doesn't need to come back. No hate though.

Nobody in here hates Phil Fulmer. Just knew it was time for a new football coach.

Not a hater. Hate generally eats up the hater. Seen many examples everywhere.

That's not accurate. Unfortunately, there are plenty of immature people on here that actually think it's cool to hate, berate and namecall without a 2nd thought.

Absolutely not. I've met the man and think he's a great dude. My wife is good friends with his oldest daughter, too.
I was just ready to see him replaced during his last year as head coach, and I'd really like to see a better candidate come in as AD.

When u win people love you. When you lose people hate you. Nobody was calling for his head in 1999 after we won the national championship.

I do not hate Coach Fulmer.

I think he was an excellent football coach, probably the second best ever at UT.

I think he could be an effective AD, if that is what he wants to do. A head coach as driven as he was early in his career that could harness that drive can be good at virtually anything. Would he harness that, if he even still has it? Dunno.

He seems to be a good guy, but unless you hang out with someone regularly, you just can't ever know.

While I agreed with his removal as football coach, I can't hate Phillip Fulmer. He coached when I first became a Vol fan as a little boy, and to this day, I still refer to him as nothing other than "Coach Fulmer". While I thought it was time to move on, I will always love Phillip Fulmer and he will definitely go down as one of the top Vols to ever grace the hill.

Well, if anybody hates him as a person and head coach at Tennessee they are a few cards short of a full deck.

I have no hate at all for the man, but his service to the university is complete.

I don't hate the guy a bit. I don't hold him in the highest regard, I don't think he is the classiest gent out there, and I think anybody aspiring to build a successful D-IA football program should keep him as far away as possible. But I don't hate the guy.

Okay, lets look at it logically! Fulmer knows little to nothing about basketball or baseball. He would have to hire coaches at some point. He decided to hire Dave Clawson. How did that work out???? He decided to promote Randy Sanders from within to Offensive Co ordinator. Other than the National Championship game, how did that work out??? 2001 S.E.C. Championship game? 2004 S.E.C. Championship game?
2007 S.E.C. Championship game?

I think he did good things for UT but he gave up at the end. I wished he could have been as dedicated to the team as he was in the early years. I just think he was burned out.

I think my dislike was that he didn't want to come to grips with his failures in the last years. His lack of control over his football team as a whole. His unwillingness to hire competent people under him and his poor recruiting. Constant excuses for poor on the field and off the field performances of his players. Do I need to say more?

I did after I made an a$$ out of myself talking trash to UCLA fans in 2008. I do think he would be a better AD than (later years) coach. At least he would not be calling plays lol! GBO!!!

He is not a true VFL.

He has been a whining complainer who has attacked people in the UTAD.

This has been the general comment I get. Hasn't been so much attacking as whining and posturing himself as the better man. His faux piety and "orange blood" are equally disingenuous. Don't hate him, but his type of person is as bothersome as they come. Similar to Tressel.
