when Berry was freshman and fulmer would not play him. it took weeks of outcry towards fulmer to play the guy and he finally did. i always think back to that whenever i hear Kiffin talk about the freshman play this year.

no, not really...

i remember him playing against cal, then starting the following week vs. southern miss. he's started every game since then.

EB had 7 tackles aginst Cal...Right behind Mayo and Hefney. Ever since Ainge and Schaffer Phil did play freshman. But nothing like this staff is going to do.

I remember Berry getting to play a lot, and people talking about how out of character that was for Fulmer to let him.

he didn't start that many games until mid season. i just remember the outcry that people had because fulmer wouldn't play him.

CLK seems to be following CPC's philosophy regarding playing freshmen. Hopefully he gets similar results.

"In case USC’s head football coach hasn’t made this abundantly clear already, allow me to do so for him: Pete Carroll has no problem relying on true freshmen.

They’ve been his go-to options on offense (Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett), and his stoppers on defense (Taylor Mays).

They’ve started season openers (Kris O’Dowd), and national title games (such as 2005, when Brian Cushing and Rey Maualuga composed two-thirds of the starting linebacker corps).

They’ve even started at the most storied position in school history, as running backs CJ Gable, Emmanuel Moody, and Joe McKnight all have at Tailback U in the past three years."

He played Nickel back in the opener at Cal then started Game 2 against Southern Miss. I don't recall it being a very big deal with Berry but with other freshman, yes...Fulmer didn't always let talent win the job.

So CPF was reading volnation back in Aug of 07, and said to himself those posters got a point, I need to start EB at corner.

Why dont some of you guys let CPF ride off into the sunset. I dont understand. He did tremendous things for the school and when his time was up he left. Let it be.

i'm not complaining about fulmer at all. i really liked the guy and i completely agree you about his accomplishments. i'm thinking about what this staff is doing with this team, compared to what fulmer would have done

Berry started his very first game in the sense that he was on the field for the 1st defensive snap. It was a nickel formation. I don't remember when he settled into the definitive starting role, but I think it was after Gaines' injury? Or was it Johnson that got injured first? Regardless, Berry isn't the guy to use to make your case.

Dude, please check your facts. You make a good point aside from the fact that Berry started all 14 games and was named SEC Defensive Freshman of the Year and was a Freshman All-American.

That Fulmer wouldn't play young players is one of the most pervasive myths of the Fulmer era. It's funny since while there were some very legit criticisms to be leveled this one simply wasn't. I'm almost positive it was Justin (can't remember for sure though) that posted a list of underclassman that played during Fulmer's tenure. It was NOT a short list. If you were good enough to play you played. This "perception" of what occurred with Berry is simply a perfect example of what someone believed to be true on the matter just doesn't hold up to the reality of it.

If you want to bash Fulmer a good place to start is that toward the end it would appear we weren't getting the kind of talent we could throw on the field and be a star. Now THAT is a legit critique.

Should have stuck with the notorious Jamal Lewis example.

You can't possibly mean the same Lewis that rushed for over 1300yds and had 232 rushing attempts (#6 EVER) his Fr year?

I know, I know, "the FL game" but when you look at the stats above it still comes off looking kinda weak as a way to "prove" Fulmer wouldn't play Fr.

No... No he doesn't. But he's got this buddy who...

Bus Driver: Well, not me personally but a guy I know. Him and her *got it on*. Wooo-eee!

Billy Madison: No, they didn't.

Bus Driver: No, no, no they didn't. But you could imagine what it'd be like if they did, right...? Everybody on, good, great, grand, wonderful!

Bus Driver: No yelling on the bus!
