Majors took a decade to get to that point at UT and he had won a NC. More often than not I regret the path we took with Fulmer. Call me naive but I have less faith in a new coach being Fulmer than I do in Butch being Majors.

That was a different time in football.

The shear scale of football has exploded since then.

You see guys like Kirby Smart going into Georgia and in his 2nd year getting really quality wins.

Jim Mcelwain goes into Florida and wins the division two straight years.

Mizzou wins the SEC East the first two seasons it's even in the damn division.

Justin Fuente wins his division first year on the job.

Chip Kelly had Oregon competing at a national level in 2-3 seasons.

James Franklin goes to Penn state, a program in shambles, and takes them to a Rose Bowl and wins the BIG10 in his 3rd season....

It's a different world....catch up.

Was born in 85. As a kid when TN lost I was dumbfounded, "wtf just happened, TN doesn't lose" is what went across my mind.

Be nice to get back there again.

Bringeth Chip Kelly please

Everyone is saying that this is the game that Butch needs to win to keep his job. I'd say 85% agree that we will be mediocre at best with Butch. We will never win a championship with Butch. If Butch beating Georgia keeps him around for another year is it worth the win? Or is it worth it to take a loss and get a great coach (Chip Kelly). Now I know we can't guarantee that we will hire a great coach but if us losing this weekend guaranteed Butch would be gone and Kelly would be the head coach would you want us to lose? I think I would take a loss against Georgia for one year with the possibility of dominating the division for years to come.

Does anyone want a loss to UGA just to get Butch ousted?? There should be a poll. And the ones who vote yes should be booted, but I see OP's point, I guess. I'll gladly take Butch for the rest of the year and maybe beyond if he beats Georgia again.

Saw a post where someone said they'd be the first person to say Butch has Georgia's number if they win. If it happens I'll be the second. Vols and Butch vs the world this week. ;) All that said I'm a fan of Detroit's offense, I respect Butch and appreciate what he's done for the program. Win or lose Butch is a champ of life and a hero compared to Dooley and Kiffin. Thought he was destined to win the east last year, but it's not over til it's over. Florida is going to lose to Vandy anyway so there's that

This thread provided a excellent opportunity to weed out a lot mental defectives and update the ignore list. Volnation is a much more pleasant experience when you don't have to wade through millions of fire Butch, hire Chip, bozos who learned football from their mama.

I could never root against Tennessee.
I could never root for Georgia.
I could most certainly never ever root for UGA over UT.
Guess that makes me a triple negatory.

How do you know this? I'm 44 and I don't feel that way. With few exceptions, we weren't underperforming from 1989-2004.

Also, I never cited Mason as a better alternative or cared about Mullen. Maybe you should just speak for yourself?

There were many who sound just like the nega Vols of today who constantly whined about Fulmers teams underperforming. Every year that we lost to Florida that was the overwhelming opinion of the Legions of the Miserable. It should come as no surprise that some still believe that to be true even though a rational look at the situation in hindsight shows that wo be a laughable position. Much like it will be when the CBJ era is viewed in 15 years.

...UT has underperformed for most of my life and yours....

(1) "Most of my life" includes the Dickey and Wyatt years, as well as 31 years of Majors and Fulmer. We weren't under-performing most of those years. So my perspective is going to be a little different from yours.

(2) You never, ever...ever...wish for your lads to lose. Ever.

(3) See rule 2.
