Have not seen enough of him to feel confident against top tier competition. Hope we don't' have to find out.

That's a tall order. I hope Dobbs stays healthy. QD would be in a good spot. Great run game and defense.

I know it's not a situation we want to happen BUT players do get injured and someone has to feel the void. And with Dobbs being a D-T QB the possibility is always there. I feel QD is more than adequate to handle the job. In fact, I believe our passing game would Improve. However, the rushing yards per game would take a dip, maybe?

Don't believe he would turn into a "deer in the headlights" like a certain QB who transferred, but that's just me...:)

GO VOLS!

I believe he is a talented young player, but I also believe that the strengths of his skill set are different than JD. That is, he's not going to have the improvisational elusiveness that JD used last year to make a lot of amazing plays out of something that was broken.

He does seem to throw the ball fairly well, and in as much as I have seen him play, he doesn't appear intimidated by the pace and power of the game at this level.

The bigger, and perhaps better, question is "do you think Debord and the coaching staff could re-shape the offense to give Dormady a chance to win?" The answer is yes. In fact, I would guess they already have a strong sense of what parts would work well, what would not and what they would do differently in the event that JD went down.

I DO NOT want it to happen, but if the defense is as good as its potential, I think the team could win with Dormady.

I think that our run game would be even stronger "IF" QD came in and improved our passing game. All that would do is stretch the field and not allow teams to crowd the box on us. We may not have as many rushing yards per game(ie. Dobbs scrambling/busted plays), but our 2 studs in the backfield would be able to feast with only a front 6/7 to face. JMO

We could win with Dormady, it might be a little adjustment, but it wouldn't take long for him to become the leader of the team and begin to perform at the SEC level.

I think I have seen enough to know that he at least won't be the reason we lose. Now, I don't know if he is ready to come in and right away be a playmaker and be the reason we win, but I think he can manage the game enough and complete enough passes to keep our running game churning.

I just hope if something does happen, he isn't thrown into a big game like Dobbs was on the road several years ago at Alabama. Hopefully if anyone gets hurt, it's against more manageable competition so QD has a little breathing room for error right out of the gate.

Everyone on this site needs to feel confident if QD replaces Dobbs for if CBJ is really doing his job correctly, we will have a well oiled machine on the field with interchangeable parts.

I've been watching the Cubs a lot this season and when Schwarber, Fowler and Soler went down, Maddon simply inserted another equally as qualified player, and that is why they are having such a prolific year.

We will have injuries at just about every position throughout the year - just a natural result of playing against worthy opponents week after week. Our second team players will be very much the reason we will achieve double digit wins and beyond. Go Vols!

Tough to say at this point OP but it is not like we would be thowing a true freshman out there with no playing time at all.

Going with a couple of the other posters, not sure how anybody has seen enough of him to make that call.

Best answer I can give, hoping Dobbs stays healthy. Josh should have been eased in and not had to be thrown in the fire the way he was, would rather not go through that again.

QD is a solid backup. IF, God forbid, Dobbs were to get hurt then it would depend on when he got hurt. If it's after that tough 4 game stretch then I like our chances with QD because after that stretch it's smooth sailing but if he were to get hurt at the beginning of the season then we are staring at an 8-4 season again because we wouldn't win any of those 4 games in my opinion.

One thing we kinda sorta know: he almost certainly wouldn't stink the joint up. He's proven that much, even in very limited playing time.

Whether he would be decent or really good or incredibly awesome, well, we simply haven't seen enough to know yet. It's quite possible even Quinten and the coaches don't know yet. Success breeds success, self-confidence is a huge part of playing well, and those intangibles won't begin to coalesce until he's truly the QB, the guy the game is riding on. Game after game.

So for now, we have to settle with this: he would be at least okay. He wouldn't stink the joint up, if we had to call on him.

I like QD and would be confident in him and the coaching staff to find ways to execute his strengths in this offense.

QD certainly has all of the physical tools to be successful in the SEC. We know about his arm talent, and he is deceptively athletic.

But if Dobbs was to go down, could QD handle the mental aspect of the game? As a QB, it's one thing to understand your reads and know the gameplan, but being able to apply that knowledge when the bullets are flying is a totally different task. That's where young guys usually struggle. Being able to process information and make reads/decisions at full speed takes some time to get used to. QD will be a good one - it would just be a matter of how quickly he acclimated to the speed of SEC ball.

Throwing the ball in practice and throwing during a game under fire is totally different. No one has a clue how he would do under fire. Crompton was the best practice QB most had ever seen. How did that translate in the game time situation? How long did it take him?
This QD is a much better passer is absolute guess.

Without Dobb's feet the Vols are not the same team, even if Dormady does possibly have more accuracy throwing the ball......bottom line is, team 120 needs Dobbs healthy if they are to climb to the top of the SEC

let's be serious, QD's arm talent is the asset that surpasses Dobbs. I think if QD had to take over the starting offense, then we would give our pass catchers the most opportunity in making plays. The biggest knack against Dobbs (like we have all seen and heard previously) is his lack of accuracy and consistency in throwing the ball down the field. QD's arm > Dobbs arm. One ? if QD has to start is lack of experience.
