Do we still keep Hamiltion?

For a while I had heard it was gonna be either Bruce Pearl or MH. Now that we axed Pearl, is Hamilton still on his way out?, or do we give him time and see who he hires to be the next bball coach?

hell to the NO,if your going to take out the trash you need to take it all out.thats the only way you can clean a house.

I would like to see him fired, and I think he ultimately will be, but I also buy that his career as UTAD is now directly tied to Dooley's success or failure.

Will he go now, or even soon? I don't think so. Should he go now? Hell yes. For whatever reason, Haslam must like him.

In September, I said that Bruce Pearl was our coach and I expected him to be our coach for a long time.

I am disappointed with the events that have brought us to this point today, events that I would call “the cumulative effect of evolving circumstances.”

Since our September news conference, several instances have occurred that have caused us to change our position, as indicated in Mike’s comments.

I care about Coach Pearl and his family. I appreciate the job that he has done at Tennessee.

From the University’s perspective, this decision is an institutional decision, with counsel and input from many who know and love this university.

Mike Hamilton has kept me informed throughout the past weeks and I have been involved and engaged in the entire process.

I have kept the University of Tennessee system President informed, and he fully supports the steps that Mike and I have taken. The President, in turn, has communicated with the Board of Trustees.

I have personally stayed in contact with the Board of Trustees Vice-Chair, Jim Murphy.

Our job in administration is to weigh all the issues and all of the inputs—sometimes including details we cannot share—and then make tough decisions. Our goal is to weigh all of the information and ultimately do what is in the best interest of the University of Tennessee.

Going forward, I am confident that Mike Hamilton will find the right coach who can build on the foundation created over the past several years.

Mike Hamilton has my support. I join him in looking forward to continued success.

This is exactly what you have to do at this time. You have to get behind your AD and support him. If not, there's no way possible we get a decent coach in here.

I'd leave Hamilton's name out altogether, just make it about the situation at hand, Bruce Pearl. By including support of Hamilton, i think he purposely wanted to add that emphasis.

Honestly, I think if Hamilton is fired, it's because he defended Pearl too much.
It must seriously suck to be on the same side as the people who are blindly calling for your head. I don't envy that position at all.

I wouldn't. The AD needs a showing of support, even if you don't plan on him being around for years to come, to show some stability in the department. In my opinion, that helps out the coaching search considerably.

please. Anyone that will listen to the sales pitch knows that there is no stability in the athletic program. Cheek knows there's no reason to fluff things up until at least June.

I'd be willing to bet the house that the only reason that was put in there was to show some stability. Hamilton's safe for now, whether anyone likes it or not. It's the only way that makes any sense moving forward.

Anyone with any working knowledge inside collegiate athletics knows that because the issues stem across the three biggest sports in the program, Hamilton has a lack of control and should be on thin ice. Anyone willing to take this job knows that he stands a good chance of having a new boss at any moment.

The only reason Cheeks put it in there is he still trusts Hamilton. It's possibly because he doesn't have much first hand knowledge of what went down since he hasn't even been in the position for a year, but right now, he's letting Hamilton work through his own mess. I think it says Hamilton is safe regardless of what happens in June. If they truly felt the need to clean house, Cheeks, Haslam and Co. would have done it all at once to try to appeal to the NCAA.

I disagree. There are no real issues in football and baseball was completely cleared and I believe is 15-2 at the moment.

Also, I'm not sure I buy Cheeks not knowing the ends and outs of the situation; from most accounts, he's the one that made the ultimate decision to fire Pearl. One would think that he wouldn't do that with a half-ass grasp of what's going on. Anyway, I wasn't trying to be a jerk; I just feel we need a united front going into this coaching search. And that appears to be what we have for the time being. :hi:

baseball isn't in the clear yet, and the preseason games before SEC action starts certainly aren't the barometer for Raleigh's fate.

As for football, new stuff seems to come to light every day about the shenanigans of Lane and Family. To say there are no real issues is laughable. Yeah, right now it looks like the 'AA is going to be lighter on football than originally anticipated, but there are still issues. Not just legal issues, but the fact that program isn't very good as well.

Cheeks did hadvea say in the situation, he may have had the final call, but it's his call since he's the head guy at UT-K. Hambone, Haslam and a slew of others recommended he be fired, so Cheeks allowed it. Don't read anymore into it than that.

If Ham wants to stay at UT he had better call Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart first and offer them everything they ever want.

Doug Gotlieb ever how u spell his name on Mike and Mike this morning said the March Violation is bs ,he said that Tn figured the relationship wouldn't work.But he said he isn't buying the made up March violation.TIFWIW

Keeping Hamilton now would be the most moronic thing UT could do, IMHO. Get rid of him and get an AD with balls ASAP. One that would laugh and spit in the face of the NCAA for this whole BBQ thing and make them look like the fools they are for making a big deal out of this nonsense. How would any potential coach's view be in regards to the guy that hired them being on thin ice, knowing that they are gonna go through a year or 2 of rebuilding and things aren't gonna be so pretty? Better to search for a new AD and him hire the new BB coach.

I am an alum,and VASF member that has listened to other's comments about Mike Hamilton. The critical issue to be considered is are we a better athletic program today than we were under the previous AD. The answer is a big resounding no. If the standard was how much money the dept. makes and that is the primary reason to keep MH, then shouldn't that same principal apply to Bruce Pearl who has put more fans in the stands than any UT bb coach. However if you apply business mentality to the situation no CEO could survive all the mistakes that have been made, and the trail leads right back to the AD department. Whether it is bad hires, a lack of oversight, or making stupid comments before big games (see Wyoming and Michigan) this guy is in way over his head. Our school is being laughed at by the entire nation and the only way to stop the bleeding is to make Mike Hamilton a former AD.

Sounds like a ringing endorsement by Thunder, Fulmer lover though. I'm sure he's suggestion would be replace him with Fulmer. With this much brain power running the show up there, no wonder we're enjoying so much success in all sports, oops scratch that.
