I started thinking about College's Biggest Popularity Contest, when gameday was showing the Ohio State failures.

2008- Sam Bradford lost to UF
2007- Tim Tebow lost to Michigan
2006- Troy Smith lost to UF
2005- Reggie Bush lost to Texas
1995- Eddie George lost to Vols

With this sort of track record (and that's just off the top of my head), is the long term effect of the publicity worth probably losing your post season bowl game? (Yes, I am superstitious)

I'm guessing people will say since we likely aren't competing for national championship, a heisman would be better than a Liberty Bowl win, but what about a Sugar Bowl win?

a big reason they all lost is with the exception of tebow in '07 none of them were the best player in college football.....eric berry is....so yes, i do want him to win it

If Tennessee is playing a quality school come bowl time, I think I'd rather EB win the heisman than Tennessee win their game. Only because I think having a heisman winner is better exposure and might do a little more for recruiting. Now, if they get paired up against a team in a non BCS conference... I'd rather Tennessee win. I don't care if it's a quality team like Boise State or BYU. Losing to a school out in the boonies is not good exposure and we haven't been rolling the way Oklahoma has. A loss to one of those teams this early would be a huge hit. Tennessee could overcome it, I just don't like what it does short term to Tennessee's image. 5-7 was bad enough.

How about Eric Berry wins the heisman and Tennessee wins their bowl game? Win-win.

I know its been said before, but wouldn't it be kinda ironic that the only Vol to win a Heisman since Manning should have is a defensive player? I mean I think we all will agree that we thought Peyton got screwed. So having the next Vol Heisman winner being a defensive player.....Gotta be a little funny on a completely screwed up level.

As much as I like EB, I gave up any and all concern about anything Heisman after the Big Screw. I want to see him have a huge year, but could care less about the trophy.

No to this. Yes to the thread question.

Without a doubt, yes. We aren't going to win a national title this year (I know, news to some after our beatdown of WKU last week) so this would probably be the next best thing. He deserves it and it brings great pub to the program.

That's your opinion. Bowl games are basically meaningless outside the championship in my opinion. I'd rather Tennessee get some sort of meaningful hardware. That being the Heisman.

My opinion is never take an individual award over a victory. A win over an Ohio State or an Oklahoma for example is also good for recruiting.

yes I would like him to win. I do not think we need to worry about being undefeated this year. And berry will not be here next year.

Matt Leinart won it and won the BCSNC.
Carson Palmer won it and won the Orange Bowl.

So it can be done. But maybe you have to be an SC QB?

Go Vols! Beat the bRuins! Eff the BCS for making fans root for their rivals, I won't do it!
