It seems like all the big name teams play cup cakes to open the season. Why do we play a top 15 team?

We don't need to strengthen our already extremely difficult schedule, so why do we schedule this type of game to open the season? Florida shows us that scheduling tough non conference games is pointless.

so do we really want cal on our schedule?

I think it makes for a better spring/summer for the players.
The coaches like it because of this reason.

good point

we have Oklahoma coming up, but they could be horrible by the time we play them

...or we could be horrible for that matter

UCLA next season, I think I remember Nebraska on a future schedule but I might be wrong.

All you can do is go out an try to win your conference. I think that playing quality opponents helps you get ready for your tough conference. Screw national rankings should you lose.....SEC championships are what it is about...get good at that and national accolades will follow

yeah i guess thats true, but scheduling an easier team for the first game would do two things:

heal injuries and players serving those cheap one game suspensions won't be needed anyway (see florida)

It has a lot to do with what part of the country we want to recruit as well....CAL and UCLA have helped us a ton in recruiting west coast talent

I'd like to see TN take road trips to places like
Wyoming/Marshall...etc...
instead of buying those games out and moving them to nashville or neyland
Let the fans see some new places

A lot of the smaller schools take the payout to raise revenues for their programs...When ut scheduled Marshall, we had no idea they would become a mid-major power...As far as the Wyoming game in Nashville a few years back, it was thye city of NASHVILLE that asked Wyoming to move their game there....NOT UT.
