IIRC, we were preseason ranked in the 50s and 60s by most prognostications.
To finish the bowl season ranked 25th is a worthy goal. It would put us on the nationwide football radar screen like a surface-to-air missile. Posting the name "Tennessee" to the Top 25 list in front of the nation's eyeballs, would put us back in the recruiting conversation for younger players beyond the South and elevate our reception by high school coaches.
Football insiders already know what's happening here. But an end-of-season Top-25 appearance causes the name "Tennessee" to pop up in barber shop conversations, family gatherings, those places where kids hear their elders talking, and take subconscious note of the names that are praised, admired, or respected.
That's where the long game for recruiting success begins.
