Do we lose more recruits by a) Firing Butch now without a permanent ...

I don't even care anymore. Get a good coach and it'll take care of itself. We have enough talent for a competent coach to succeed.

B by long shot.

Making a big splash hire will fix most of decommit issues. Hiring a winner that just wins baby will fix all the recruiting issues.

If you make a splash hire, recruits will stay.

If you keep Butch, recruits will abandon ship.

Simple.

Neither. Recruits aren't going to commit to Butch OR an interim if they know neither will actually be coaching them once they set foot in Knoxville.

I know y'all are out for blood, but this "stop the bleeding" narrative has always been dumb.

Who cares? Never keep a coach for a recruitng class. Hire the right coach and the kids will come.

Keeping him isn't saving the recruiting class. Firing him isn't saving the recruiting class. Take that factor out of the equation.

If you are going to get rid of a coach you might as well go ahead and do it. Almost all the recruits we are losing is because they know Butch won't be here. Players commit to coaches and not to schools. I know fans think they come to good old favorite college because they love it so much but the vast majority choose a school because of the bond they have with the coaches. This year will be a disaster recruiting wise regardless of the path we choose. Even if Butch stays another year the recruits will have no reason to believe he will be here for their career. This is why Currie wanted to give Butch every chance to win 8. That doesn't seem realistic so the plug will be pulled but make no mistake the program will be set back for a year at a minimum on the recruiting front.

Exactly. Any coaching change means you set back that year's class. Depending on who is retained and who is gone will have a small effect, but the better ones tend to take another offer.

This is why we don't replace coaches everytime some jackass farts crossways.

I'm not sure Currie wanted to "give Butch a chance to win 8". I think it's more like, why saddle an interim with a crushing loss to Alabama? Butch made his bed, let him get the bedbugs.

Recruits are dropping like flies given what they’ve been seeing on the field... I think if you release Jones now the remainder of the class takes a “wait & see” approach when it comes to the next coach hired.. now that said... the new HC will have to hit the ground running on players not committed to UT that he wants in his system....

While you are right about kids committing to coaches and not schools despite what some think. If we make a splash (Big Name) hire a lot of those kids will come back or at least give us a solid look.

Thought process was an interim coach causes kids to jump faster but the national media has been in savage mode on Butch for awhile so who cares...Fire him sooooooon please

I think it's best to have someone ready to go once you can him to keep the class together. Maybe that's what Currie is doing and he will surprise us all.

What if Butch is fired before the KY game and, by some divine miracle,Tennessee goes on to win 8 games? I don't know how many of those games Tennessee is capable of winning, but,I am confident they are more than capable of losing every game we have left! I haven't seen Tennessee do anything that makes me think they can win another ball game....better yet, win 8 ball games!

The father of Trevor Lawrence ( the number one player and qb prospect inthe country) the former UT commit publicly stated that Trevor recommitted from UT because he thought butch was a “clown”!

So do I
Get rid of him before he can do more damage.
Then make the splash hire to bring some of those lost back and inspire some never considering us to look at us closer.
That simple!
