Do we know 2026 SEC opponents yet?

I see us dropping Oklahoma and Arkansas and Kentucky to add Texas and Ole Miss and South Carolina. If it goes to 9 games, then all bets are off.
Isn't it 1+7 right now? If so, we will lose Ala,Fla and GA potentially too. I see no chance all 3 are on our schedule next year and could potentially lose all 3, depending on if it stays 1+7 or we go to 9 games and a 3+6 format

If they hold to the “idiotic” idea of playing on each campus every 4 years, it will be the 7 schools Vols aren’t playing this year plus Vandy. The idea is idiotic cause if UNC, Va, ND etc somehow got outta the ACC today, the SEC would break their neck to go get them & make such a noble idea obsolete.

I still prefer divisions where schools can build annual rivals, traditional games can be preserved. Even the NFL sees the value in keeping their long time rivalry matchups. I don’t see value in going to Mizzou every 4 years at expense of losing Alabama game.

Not sure about all of his assumptions but that Tennessee and Texas will play next year would seem to be a certainty. With Arch starting there, the Manning connection would bring too much national attention to not schedule it.
Good point. Manning could declare for the draft if he has a good year though.

There is no competitive reason to go to 9. It just cannibalizes the conference further. If you do well in the SEC, you get in the CFP. But adding that extra game, and potential extra loss doesn't help anyone's case. I'm okay with requiring a P4 game instead of a cupcake. But not sure that there's a reason to add a 9th conference game outside of money. Which, honestly, is the only reason that will matter in the end.

I think we need 9 at this point because there are just too many teams. We won't be able to play hardly anyone at 8 games.

Bottom line...

Most fans want nine game schedules because of the absurd expansion that's the only way to maintain traditional rivals.

Most coaches want 8 conference games and would probably be happy with less, because they care most about being fired by having to play more SEC games.

Sankey is negotiating for 4 AQs from the SEC in an expanded playoff. To make that happen, the conference may be required to go to a 9 game conference schedule. That's how those negotiations have gone so far.

A 9 game conference schedule means each team loses a home game every two years. ESPN has offered an additional 50 million per year as compensation, Sankey wants 80.

That's my understanding of where things stand and why 9 conference games are still on the table.

Agreed .but if we stick to 1-7, Ala will be Auburn's permanent rival. No way they break up the Iron Bowl. Gonna be weird and heartbreaking not playing Fla,GA and potentially Ala every year.
I don’t care about Florida or Georgia. There’s no real history or tradition to those games. They just became annual opponents in the 1990s.

Alabama, Vanderbilt, & Kentucky are the 3 historical rivals.

Hell, I'd prefer to see both of our schedule, I'm tired of taking ass beatings from them, especially GA. But sadly, the younger generation sees Fla as a bigger rival than Fla. I don't, I was raised to hate Alabubba. If we stick to 1+7, we aren't getting Ala every year, unfortunately. Auburn will always get them first. I'd prefer the 3+5or6, depending on if we stay 8 or go 9.

All this talk makes me wonder if they will ever do away with the SEC championship game

If the season is expanded to 9 conference games, I don't see how the CG survives. There are currently no divisions within the conference and eventually, that CG will be a liability for a team with playoff hopes on the line.

Wrong. in a 12-16 team playoff system the SEC runner-up will be in the playoffs. They will be no worse than 10-3

Not sure if it's that or not. And it could very well be wholesale changes next year...but I ain't certain.
