Oregon will not look as fast against our defense, and UF WILLget it together before we see them.... However I picked UF, Oregon is just a better team

I think Urban knows how to coach a team, and they should be back into better form by the time they meet us.

Oregon's RBs run on the 4 by 100 for their track team. They are legitimately fast! Really fast.

I don't understand one thing ... when you say Tennessee might have a good team they say they will wait and see after next week ... but already people are jumping on the Oregon bandwagon after one game ... i admit over a smaller college they looked good ... the Vol running backs didn't look to shabby either

Agreed.

It's funny how the general sentiment before Saturday was that we had a better chance against Oregon, but one 72-0 win over a terrible and slow New Mexico team and a sloppy preseason scrimmage against Miami (Ohio) has the sentiment shifting.

If it's about match ups, I would think we match up better with Oregon. If it's about momentum and execution RIGHT NOW, I would go with a better shot against Florida.

Based on yesterday and yesterday alone, I went with Florida. But you simply cannot tell much week 1. Oregon looked scary fast and dominant. Florida struggled on offense. I do feel we will play both teams tough and hopefully come out of the 2 with at least a split. I was impressed with Wilcox as I expected to be. I think his scheming and gameplans alone will keep us in most games this year. Overall this was a nice start to the Dooley era...and definitely a solid base to build on.

I don't think everyone realizes how speed-deficient New Mexico really is. It was a terribly bad match up for them, as Oregon's system is predicated on getting guys out of position laterally and then burning them with speed.

Heck, does anyone really think Oregon is going to return 3 punts for TD's against Tennessee like they did in their last game?

I think Oregon will likely win, but Tennessee has a shot.

Florida. They're sloppy. We have a young OL and I believe their DL is also young. We got a FINE OL coach and that unit is going to get better every game. Just one thing, I think our RBs need to be pushed to running with more authority when approaching the line. No pitter patter stuff, hit hard and fast. I notice we ran the edges usually and not up the middle very much.

Oregon's speed is incredible, I mean I was shocked! Our defense did well against UTM but I wasn't too impressed with their speed, if that doesn't change the Ducks will blow right through UT's defense. However, the nice thing about our defense was it swarmed. I was so glad to see swarming back. Even happier to see that they tackled instead of letting opponents act like ping pong balls that kept getting away. The defense may be like the Vandy defense back in the 1990's, I think. That group of guys, if they got their hands on you, you went down. No matter who the team lost to. This UT group so far looks very much like that.

Florida will be back as the season wears on but barring injuries in the Duck game, I think we take the lizards this year. It will be a close game but we'll win it. If we do please don't kill me for what I say next. Please, please, please. What I say now is the evil Meyer hater in me. Put an animation character on the Jumbotron of Lane Kiffin singing Rocky Top at game end while another animation of Meyer runs around trying to escape as Kiffin chases him, picks Meyer up and rocks him like a baby while still belting out Rocky Top as the sky goes from day to night then day again and Kiffin ends the song with "ALL NIGHT LONG." Why??? I didn't use to hate Meyer, just had a grudging respect for him as a coach. But watching his classless unnecessary TD against that team yesterday was sickening. No better way to gorge his guts out than this.

Oregon, right now much as I despise admitting it, they look like they have us outclassed at least on the offensive side of the line. And their best running back wasn't even in the game. We will have to play 20 levels above what we did with UTM to beat Oregon. It's not impossible for sure, we're still Tennessee but it's certainly miles away from an easy or automatic win. Speed kills. Hopefully, we bring some speed of our own.

Tennessee 's QB kept throwing over his receivers. I got the feeling he was so interception or mistake shy he actually did this on purpose. Bray threw at his receivers' numbers in stark contrast to Simm. If Matt throws against Oregon the way he did with UTM, I promise you the Ducks will slice our azz off and feed it to us for dessert. That's how I see it and if things don't change drastically by game time, that's how it will be. Until then VOLS FOREVER!

Seriously? Please tell me you didn't just ruin my whole thread with some sick fantasy about LK & CUM... I thought it would be fun to see who people thought we would have a better chance of beating and you write some novel with some weird fantasy about 2 men men cuddling "All night long".. That is some really weired crap right there... :swoon3:

Oregon.

Too much shouldn't be read into all three of our first game victories.

I will say this though, we had a better win against UTM than I thought we would. We made a lot fewer mistakes than I thought.

I think that is the part that impressed me the most.. I realize that UTM isn't Bama or Florida and that we should have won the game, but I was really impressed with amount of mistakes that we didn't make... I thought we were extremely prepared....

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Strangest thing I've seen here at VN.

I vote that we don't put that on the jumbotron.

Yes, we didn't beat ourselves. That's a great foundation, as the offense gets more gelled and the defense adds more wrinkles.

With so many kids playing in their first real collegiate game, I thought we were going to have a lot of sloppy football for a lot of the game.

It may not be Top 5 football, but we didn't play sloppy football. I agree with you.

If the way the two teams played yesterday is the way they are going to play all year than we have a way better chance of beating florida.

Right now I want to take one game at a time...it is way to early to tell if we are going to beat Oregon or Florida...yes I agree that we played pretty well yesterday but we also played a FCS team that went 5-6 last year and Oregon played a New Mexico team that had only one win last year...Tennessee needs some serious film watching and practice before we can talk about beating major FBS teams this year.

If we could play either this weekend, it's Florida. My thoughts could easily be swayed come next Sunday, but one of the two will be over by then.

Not scared of eaither.. Oregon played New Mexico school for the blind, deaf, and mute... But Florida just opened up EVERYONES eyes in the SEC that they can be beat. Esepcially after what Miami (OH) did.. Just flat out embarassed them.

...before yesterday I did not consider LSU and Ole Miss a realistic win for the Vols.......that has now changed!

Not my fault you don't have a sense of human, I mean humor. My idea would unquestionably make Meyer sicker than you, which was the point.

1. Oregon didn't look fast because New Mexico is slow, they looked fast because they are fast. They pretty much have a track team playing their skills positions

2. Take away the three punt returns and they still put up 51pts...

3. Of course UT has a shot...

UF

Oregon's starting RB will be playing next weekend and he is as fast or faster that the one that played yesterday. Oregons tempo on offense is fast. If you watch the game you will see Oregon snap the ball and players on defense are just barely set. They run a no huddle offense untill they have a substantial lead and then run the clock out. Only hitch in Oregon's offense will be the QB. It's his 2nd game and he will be nervous. If he sputters, Tenn will have a chance. But to those watching the game you will be wittnesing probably the best 1-2 RB combo in the nation. Another note don't get all exicted about playing against an undersize D, they are really quick.

Bouncey playing center for the Gators would give him a chance of being the game MVP ... for us.

We have a shot at both but a very slim shot...Do not fool yourselves, We could take brutal horrible beatings these next two games so don't get your hopes up.
