Do We Dare Go With Alternate Unis On Saturday?

We are 2-0 in Orange and white and idiots want to change things up. Go figure.

If you need motivation to play the best team on your schedule then you do not deserve to be there.

I think the alternates can be tasteful when it’s for 1 game a season. For instance, all black for Halloween. I think we’ve gotten a little carried away and now wear alternates 2-3 games a season.

Pointless drivel. Guess we get rid of the checkerboard end zones when players decide they want to run into something else or drop "Rocky Top" because it too country.

Times may change but my opinion about wearing the Orange won't.
I’m not saying I don’t agree with you. BUT after being involved in youth sports at multiple levels, I can tell you the kids very much like to see new things and like to have the new “fancy” designs.

These kids are making millions. The days of “playing for UT out of loyalty and that checkerboard meaning the world to you” are gone and past. As a fan I very much agree with you on tradition. As a realist I realize that any of that still existing was washed away with college free agency when it comes to players.

It’s not as much the need as the want. Kids these days very much care about looking good and being in the most eye catching uniforms. The bleeding of orange is now reserved for fans and very, very few players. We’re into tradition. They’re into new things and looking cool.

The car you were driving 10 years ago would likely still be getting you around had you maintained it with some TLC. Did that stop you from buying a newer model? Probably not. Why? Not because that traditional 2010 Camry wasn’t going the trick, Because you wanted the latest, the better look?

Dark mode didn’t work out so well in ‘21 (am I remembering that right?), but something’s telling me our new Smoky Grey combo could be nice for this one. I’ll get a lot of disagreement, but I think the players by and large love the alternates, and I’m happy to yield to them. 🍊🏈
They already announced the Smokey Grey will only be worn against New Mexico State for the salute to service game. They will only wear the dark mode for a night game going forward, so I look for the traditional orange over white this week.

Orange Helmets. Its time to stop blaming those helmets for that South Carolina debacle.
They haven’t ordered orange helmets for players since 2022, they couldn’t wear them this weekend if they wanted to.

There’s not a way to make the orange helmets and the orange jerseys appear the same color on TV, which is why you saw them worn with all white against South Carolina. (Also why we never wore any of the dozens of concept orange helmets that adidas and Nike presented over the years) Even then, it was noticeable that they did not appear the same color as the numbers and orange collar on the jersey on TV. Clemson‘s orange helmets don’t match their jerseys either, but nobody complains because it’s a darker orange and isn’t as noticeable on TV. Ours is clearly way off, and our fans care More about uniforms than probably any fan base that exists right now.

Plus, you do not want to wear Black when the temperature is around 90 degrees was late as 6/7 PM.

Settled Orange & White it is

Thanks, CJH.

As far as Checker Neyland games go, Tennessee wore its all-orange uniforms for the first one under Josh Heupel against Ole Miss in 2021. The Volunteers have then gone with the orange-and-white threads for every Checker Neyland game since, including Florida in 2022, Texas A&M in 2023, and Florida in 2024

Are some of you opposed to alternate unis because you actually think it has an affect on the outcome or is it because you know we're probably not winning and it looks more embarrassing when its in alternate unis? Both premises are ridiculous btw.

Because the college football world is watching and I’m proud to represent our school colors. Anything other is disgraceful.

This ain’t a comic book story. Changing your wardrobe doesn’t make you more powerful.
