Do we beat Florida?

Rainey and his GF settled that away from the court as far as I know. He wasn't charged with anything either.

Charges or not, there was a recording of what he did. You are not seriously going to defend the actions of the university in that case are you?

Feel free to bring up the ding-dong actions of our players in defense, but there is NO defense for UFs actions in that case.

I'm thinking a 24-21ish type of game. I don't think it will be a shootout.

Agreed. I think home-field-advantage makes the difference though.

To beat UF's defense, you have to have a well-rounded offense. We clearly do not have that SO FAR. Not saying we can't win the game or even have a well-rounded offense by then. Many have debated our game plan and whether or not we showed all we had against Montana. But simply going by what we saw, it's tough to make a case that we can beat Florida right now.

I dont think so, UFs D is still nasty without Jenkins. I hope we do but I just dont see us, Honestly I think we have a better chance of beating SC and UGA then UF. I say its something like 24-19

All I meant, wezcoast, is that both teams are young. Not sure that the losing team should plead "youth" no matter who wins. No deep meaning here.

Gotcha. We've had so much go so wrong for several years that we get defensive far too easy as a fan base. Hopefully our team is more mature than I am , and they kick it up a notch and compete .

If someone has the goods on Rainey, I would like to hear it. Not sure it was bruited about on gator boards. One thing is sure: when he was allowed back on the team he finally started playing up to his potential. He had a red shirt year, just a fifth year senior.

I'm worried about Cincy!

could be 1-2 if we don't get our heads on a swivel.

Forget Florida, let's get past Cincy first. They aren't what they were a few years ago, but they've still got enough tools to take it to us if things don't improve over the Montana game, especially in the run/o-line.

One game at a time sounds like the best idea for this season.

Are people seriously thinking we go to UF and win?

I know we're hopeful, but we need some reality checks. We are going to live and die by the most fickle of offensive schemes - the big play. Tends to struggle on the road.

Recording? It was a TEXT message :lolabove: And how is the university at fault? He was suspended for a time by Meyer. His charges were dropped and he settled it with his GF supposedly outside of court.

Explain to me how exactly the university screwed that up?

Because the university told Rainey to leave her a voice mail, not a text message.

I can understand wishful thinking, but frankly I'm really surprised at how confident about the game many UT fans are.

What else would we do with the 1st glimmers of something to be optimistic regarding stability and talent? But over hype the first big rival game. Isn't that what mediocre teams are supposed to do?

My bad, I was thinking it was a voice mail :). My point is that there was tangible proof (not just a case of he said/she said) of a death threat against a woman and the punishment was laughable considering the offense. If you think the actions of the university were measured and appropriate, well I don't know what to say....

So he was suspended for 6 games, and could not return until he settled his issues. His GF and him took care of it privately, outside of court.

No one was injured, no one got hurt. I've had friends send nasty ass texts and messages to GF's during long, messy break ups. The only reason anyone cares in this case is because its a football player.

I think a 6 game suspension is a fair amount considering no one was injured, there were no charges, no court dates. Nothing. It was a big fat nothing. Obviously you shouldn't talk to someone like that, but hell, have you ever seen a messy break up? I've seen girls drive down guys in their car, guys throw bricks at windows, I've seen tons of crazy crap and we all go up in arms over this text message like he was serious.

Well everyone did their due diligence (cops, school, GF, Rainey, etc...), but to say the university took a weak stance is BS. 6 game suspension for that is maybe even harsh.

So you're taking an incident that happens EVERY day in society with relationship screw-ups, and despite the incident being settled without any charges, you're going to say the university still screwed up?

I don't know what to say

EDIT: Just looked up some articles on the situation, and Rainey's GF even said she didn't want him to be arrested.

Lol. Your equating damaging someones car car with threatening to kill someone. Or saying all sorts of bad things to ...threatening to kill someone. A collegiate athlete and university representative that didn't just "allegedely" say it, but actually left proof that her threatened a girl's life. Indent think you get that in life, there are some lines you don't cross, and this is one of them. And there is not even any question as to whether he crossed it, no need to rely on unreliable or biased witnesses, he left an electronic record of it!

And you keep bring up that there were no charges brought as if that is proof that what he did wasn't serious. That proves zero. It's possible that he was truly contrite, it's also possible that the girl is so frightened of the nut that threatened her life that she won't cooperate and just wants to go on living. She knows the police can't protect her and it would be little consolation that they arrest the guy after she is dead.

I can't believe your even defending the guy or that you think the university was actually too harsh. At some point in your life I assume you will have a girlfriend, wife, daughter that you will care enough for to realize the difference between someone calling had bad names and someone threatening to take her out of your life. Or maybe you go through life without getting it at all.....

If this wasn't a Florida issue, I'd have a feeling you'd be thinking something different. By all accounts from people in Gainesville, what Rainey did was very out of character. He never had past issues or incidents with the law, or relationships with his GF.

Frankly, when the news broke, it was quite a shock for most of Gator nation.

Look, you have your opinion; but if hes gone to court, had charges dropped because he settled outside, and his GF claims no issues in the present, I don't know what else to tell you.

There's NO way that Meyer would've let Rainey back on the team if the charges weren't dropped. Meyer may have had issues during his tenure with punishment, but he wouldn't have let Rainey back on the team if his GF wanted to press charges.
