12,250 season tickets unsold. That's unacceptable and attributable to BAD AD and BAD ideas for saving money. I think if we have the NC game in there, there would be probably half of those sold. That's another 6,125 tickets at face value plus the donation. I have no idea what it averages out to, but that's a lot of money. I would be willing to bet way cheaper than losing a home game in the home and home against UNC. Thoughts?

Never should have canceled that game! We may not have the trophy but we beat them in the MCB! Now look at the state of their program, we thought ours was bad?? How can you fire your coach in late July, a week before training camp and before you have a replacement?? Jmo but UNC is a 5 win team tops, this year.

Wouldn't be so bad now--their coach and AD are gone--soon most of their players will be ruled inelligible. Would have been a cakewalk for us, but our AD was scared (and rightly so - see Music City Bowl game) and cancelled it.

Luckily we are all entitled to opinions. 1 OOC game isn't going to make that much of a difference in season ticket sales

OK, maybe you are right. I will change this post to say WTF are we scheduling Buffalo, MTSU and Montana in the same season? Cincinnati, well, seriously, that is not a real game either. That's 4 out of 8 of our home games are against NOBODY's. That is pathetic. Never a big Doug Dickey fan but he would have NEVER scheduled these teams. NEVER. This is an embarrassment. I would seriously rather get beaten by top 10 teams than (not go to) any of these four games which is probably what will happen.

Thread title is misleading. I thought we had dropped the National Championship game from our schedule

OK, I didn't realize that we were requesting a reschedule. The way i remembered it we were supposed to play them in a home and home and we opted out of their home game because we wanted a home game here for $$. They dropped our home game in fairness. Why would we want to reschedule a year in advance, which is way late?

Help me. What happened?

I'd rather take the W right now, making fat cash on OOC isn't really helping anyone right now.

I am a season ticket holder and I can tell you that what is on the schedule has absoluty ZERO to do with me renewing my tickets.

What more than likely has happened is people who are not working or have taken new jobs, or even have a spouse no longer working, simply do not have 8 weekends or $1,000 + for a pair of tickets to come to Knoxville this fall.

The schedule at best may have a 5-10% drop on the total amount of tickets sold. There was about 8,000-9,000 unsold last year. Trust me.... if you were one of the few like me who went to the UAB game last year... it was more than eveident sales dropped like a brick last season.

I like seeing fans call out our scheduling. If you wouldn't mind, could you tell me the last time we didn't schedule a major OOC team?

i guess it depends on how you define major. i don't think think cincinnati is 'major', or at least not marquee, even though they've won a couple of big east championships. this is definitely the most underwhelming OOC i can remember since 2000 when we had Southern Miss, La-Monroe and Memphis.

There are teams like Oklahoma coming up so no reason to go pms on one year of lesser ooc.

I think season ticket sales, or the lack thereof, is due to :
1. Economy-look at the unemployment rate/gas prices/ grocery prices/etc. Its tough right now for the average family to spend $2k on tickets to football games. I know I can spend a couple hundred and make it to a couple of games.
2. Lack of success- Once success returns, so will ticket demand.
3. HDTV...not for me personally, but for some, it has become much more comfortable to watch it on the 52" in HD, in the comfort of home, than the drive, traffic and parking hassle, weather,etc.

Mainly #2, beat Flarda and see how demand for tickets goes up for Buffalo, then Uga and LsU....

upcoming OOC games are really interesting:

nc state next year, which isn't that exciting but it's not bad
return trip to oregon
nebraska
oklahoma
ohio state
