Do stars matter??

Evidently, I am too, because I just tried to like it again and couldn't.

Anyone who thinks stars don't matter is confusing causal power with predictive power. That or assuming that something needs 100% accuracy to have predictive power. Either one is wrong.

To the OP, I'm guessing the articles linked in kidbourbon's post (linked by WesternKyVol) answer the questions pretty well and somewhat along the lines of your guesses.

Here is the formula. When your team signs a 2 star you ramble about how stars dont matter and use terms like "good motor" and "underrated."
And then when you sign the 4star you get........BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!

Alot of conversation about our recruiting lately has been centered around the lack of 4 and 5 star commitments. I have seen countless post stating that kids can and do develop into huge successful players that were 3star or even lower.

I would love to see if there is some data out there that gives the percent of success for kids and what their rankings were out of hs. If that data is out there someone please link it.

My assumption is that the success rate is greatly effected by a kids ranking. Sure some 5 star kids fail and some 2 star kids become great but the stars do matter IMO.

I posted this in another thread but would love to see what percentages you guys think the different ratings might show if there was a study done.

My guesses are::


5star players succeed at a 75per rate
4star players succeed at a 50per rate
3star players succeed at a 33per rate
2star players succeed at a 10per rate

What percentages would you guys guess as being correct??

Stars are important if we are recruiting five star players,

if we are only recruiting 3 star players.... then they don't mean anything.....jmho :thumbsup:

As long as he is a 3.6 or better, not much of a drop off from a 4 star, I guess its how you look at it.

All you have to do is go look at Genesis in the bible for your answer. 2 stars begat 3 stars who begat a few wins.then wins begat four stars who then begat more wins. Then the more wins begat fives stars and the five stars then begat championships.
