Do I think that if it were made illegal and she broke that law, should she face some kind of consequence? Yes. Does that necessarily equal life in prison? Of course not. There is a wide range between a warning and life in prison - and I think a very appropriate punishment could be determined.

A warning for committing murder? That's a strong contradiction from you. If abortion is the same severity as first degree murder, the punishment should be the same, no?

We all can't agree on everything - life would be far too boring if we did :)

I will always stand my ground on this topic, and if given the opportunity to help make a change, certainly do so. But have no fear, I'm about as far from the 'blow up a clinic' type as it gets, haha. :peace2:

I'm saying punishments in general (for all crimes) range from warnings to life (or death) in prison. I contend that punishment for abortion (if made illegal) would not necessarily have to jump to the end of that range, as it is a wide one, and surely there could be something more appropriate.

Cool. Just floating the reversible sterilization idea. Some friends and I batted it around awhile back. It came down to the question "Is there any way to actually end the abortion/unwanted children/welfare kids issue?". The reversible sterilization route was the only thing that seemed to genuinely address all of those.

You implied that a reason we shouldn't make abortion illegal is that people will have them anyway. So, I took an example of two illegal activities to illustrate a point.

Of course, what you failed to realize is that in doing so you conceed that abortion really is wrong. You just justify it in your mind because of people who will then break the law to kill the unborn.

I've always liked the idea, but the only way it would work is if it were offered as a free option (with a week supply of non-addictive pain meds) AND the loopholes associated with 'more kids = more welfare money' were closed.

If it cost money, those that really needed it wouldn't do it. It also could not be mandated.

Wrong again, bud. I never stated that was my primary reason for it being legal. It was a supporting factor, meant to hopefully shed light for people who hadn't thought about it in practice yet.

Keep up your futile effort though. I'm satisfied in knowing things aren't going your way in regards to the law. :)

In theory (obviously we didn't do a cost analysis) the basically complete elimination of welfare for unwanted/financially unsupported children would more than cover the expense.

How TRULY viable the option would be financially/logistically I don't know. Interesting thought though.

Our movement has technology and science on our side. Its only a matter of time till abortions will be unnecessary and viewed as barbaric due to advances in technology.

It will be viewed the same way we view slavery today

I have only read about 10 pages In this whole stupid thread so I don't know if this was brought up or not but..... Why is it the woman's right but if she decides to have it I am a dead beat dad if I didn't want it and don't pay child support or see the baby?

Now I don't have kids and have been happily married for 20 years but you ladies can't have it both ways.

rewriting the entire genetic code of an unborn human creates more issues than it fixes. But hey, as long as it stops modern day slavery

Futile? Your the one whose position looks like a wore out punching bag. What light did you shed? None. I would say you are the one who hasn't actually thought about it. But, when you are actually supporting and now promoting something as heinous as grinding up unborn children, then what can one expect. Keep diggin in your heals there buddy.

I don't think a law or a medical law that dictates an abortion cannot be done past a certain point is out of the question. But then you have to take into consideration when proper genetic testing can be conducted as well. Also you get into the argument about life starts at conception or at birth. Which leads us right back to where we are at.

It's the woman's choice.

Does the father get any say? He is involved also.

On the flip side, if he wanted her to have an abortion and she refused he would be stuck paying child support.

Actually an interesting point.

Very few people know just how many abortion clinics have closed in the past couple of years. Nor, do they know how many women, who thought there was no other option, become aware of resources for their pregnancy that doesn't require them killing the unborn. Much of this happens through vigils and rallies. No one should rally outside a clinic unless they are willing to get their hands dirty and get involved with that person's life.

Abortion is big business and there is tons on money at stake. Abby Johnson has shed light on the deception and manipulation in this industry.
