Do not be surprised if Dooley goes 3-4

not sure if posted already but, if hired, CRS is a 4-3 guy. Also, roster has to be pretty deep at the LB and DL position to run a 3-4..UT's not there yet

That would be nice if we had 4 LBs to field. Next year it will be AJ, CM, Lathers, and then who?

I would be shocked if Tennessee went to a 3-4 this year regardless of who is coaching the defense. There aren’t nearly enough linemen on this team that are big enough and good enough to play that scheme yet.

By reading the title of this thread I thought it meant go 3-4 in his first seven games this year. If that was the case, his a** is out of here!

If UT wants to win they better run a 4-3 scheme. All Shannon has ever played is a 4-3 does not make sense to run anything else. A 3-4 only ensures we will lose.

The Recruiting of bigger lbs and des suggest it.

People have alluded to this for a few years. While I hope it happens, I just don't see it. Hope I'm wrong. One thing we don't have to speculate on is Wilcoxes (<~~lol) multiple base defenses.

Dooley will win more than 3 games because they play more than 7 games..... Duhhh..

He could us one of the big LB's as a stand up DE, wide 9, or a rush DE. Play one as a over hang player but he better be able to cover.

I think this topic comes up once a day at the least. We simply cannot recruit enough DT's to ever run a 3-4. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but Maimi was always a 4-3 cover 2 defense under Shannon.

You need more linemen to play a 3-4 than you do to play a 4-3.

yeah ive been thinking a 3-4 defense has been in the works for some time. We have (likely) McCullers coming in to anchor the front three with Sentimore and Bohannon/Couch and then line up AJ, Maggitt, Santos, and Jac Smith across the back to bring some serious heat. That would be pretty stellar IMO.

ThT would be beneficial to a 3-4. Seeing as we have fewer DT's. Plus Tugboat, or McCullers could be out NG. I just dont see us ever being a true 3-4 team. Again, hope I'm wrong.

We need 3 true DT's to effectively run a 3-4 defense. A 3-4 is just another name for a 5-2 front. Our personell actually doesn't match up bad for a 3-4

WLB-Maggit
WE-Miller
DT-McCullers
SE-Couch
SLB-Smith
JLB(Jack LB)-Santos
MLB-Johnson

But I don't see us doing it.

In retrospect, Sentimore would probably be the weak end and Miller would be his backup. The more I think about it the better it sounds. Miller (WE), Carson (DT), and Hood (SE) would be next guys in the rotation inside.

Sentimore, walls, bohannon, and miller fit the mold for des in 3-4. Obrien and Taylor are 3-4 des as well. Jac's strengths come out as that hybrid. Our defense is a tweener D, and I think we need a dc who is comfortable with both schemes. I love the idea of Shannon, but I think it's false.
