Been thinking about it for awhile but I think I'm about ready to go back in time with a flip phone. I hate those people that are on their smartphones 24/7 and sadly I've become one of those people..lol...looking at a Kyrocera DuraXV flip phone. Military grade rugged phone with a few nice bells & whistles but nothing amazing. This way it'll limit my "online" time to my tablet at home after "family time" Anyone else made the switch back?

Saw yesterday they are making a dumb phone that can text and call and that’s it.

Thought about it a few years ago, but decided will power was a better option. There is no reason to not have a computer in your pocket. Getting rid of Facebook gave me a couple hours a day, and avoiding the football forum (sorry freak) nets me at least an hour. The phone isn't the problem, priorities are.

I turned my phone off about 15 months ago. Deleted all my contacts and just shoved it in my desk at home. One of the best decisions I’ve made in recent memory. It helps with your mental clarity and focus. And you don’t realize how addicted you are to it until you give it up. I had no idea how much clearer I’d become once I let it go. It really will change your life. It’s freeing and you feel so much lighter.

My dad is a CEO of multiple financial institutions and still has a flip phone. Don’t let anyone tell you it won’t work or isn’t practical.

I’m not giving up texting. It’s my perfered method of communication. I’m not going back to a T9 either.

However, I saw this yesterday and was really interested...

Light Phone 2 | Indiegogo

I like the sleek look of it and has just the right amount of functionality. It’s also more of a secondary phone that uses the same #.

This is really the ideal design for teenagers too. Seeing how addicted my teenage niece is to her phone is frightening. My wife is already laying the law down that our kids won’t have smartphones until they are off to college. Social Media is off limits on any device.

Why not just turn your data off?

I don't see why you'd want to abandon a potentially life saving device. But, if you don't have the will power to just ignore it, so be it.

Judgement is never a good look.

Also, smartphones rarely ever save someone’s life. It’s more of an anomaly than a trend. Death usually comes when you are expecting it (like a long, lingering disease) or when you’re least expecting it (like a car accident). Phones won’t help you much there. But the paranoia and promise of connection does help fuel their sales.

Welcome to America. The land of blatant capitalism and loose morality. Quality of life rarely comes into play.

I guess I should add some clarification. My current smartphone (iPhone) is about to crap out so a new phone is coming soon. This is why I'm considering the change now, only thing I'll miss at ALL from a smartphone is the good camera.

No disrespect meant or intended. We’re all Vol fans here. Just pointing out that phones don’t really do as much as we think they can for us. That’s all.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I happen to think my life is infinitely better and more fulfilled without a cell phone. But more power to those who feel differently. No need to make enemies out of potential friends.

I really don't understand this phenomenon that you can only break the social media addiction by getting a flip phone. Literally just delete the accounts, it's not that hard.

Right on. Doesn't bother me that you don't have a smartphone. Ain't mad at you.

However, don't discredit their usefulness as time goes on. They are great for seniors (along with Google Home/Alexa devices) in 'fallen/can't get up' situations. They are making life much easier on diabetics providing real time blood readings and insulin administration. There's plenty more situations where they can be a great help. And they help me figure what time movies are starting if I'm out and about.

Hey man, I’m not discrediting that. Go for it, in my opinion. They can be very useful. I’m more lamenting at my own generation and their refusal for self reliance. Among many other flaws.

Decent response. But the tone stays the same. We’re talking about technology here. For one person in particular. He started this thread for advice. And that’s what I’m trying to give him. From my point of view.

I have no intention of getting embroiled in an online debate where I know I’m outnumbered by the number of posters and yet I outnumber them even more by sheer IQ percentage. And let’s just leave it at that. Right hoss?
