Punt return Defense - #119 (Dead last)
Kick Return Defense - #75
Net Punting - #108

ST by committee obviously not working. Return Teams are respectable at #31 and #20.

Total Defense - #102
Pass Efficiency Defense - #108
Rush Defense - #90
Pass Defense - #95
Sacks - #99
TFL - #111
Scoring Defense - #110

Defense is a mess overall.

Pass Offense - #31
Rush Offense - #90
Total Offense - #69

As good as the offense seems, it's below average.

Just putting numbers with perceptions on the board.

This does include today's games.

Absolutely unacceptable. I knew our special teams were among the worst in the country, but our total defense=102? Mike Hamilton needs to be on the phone with Bo Pelini at once.

As the SEC gets more inter-conference games under it's belt, I'll be posting how we fare in-conference, like I did last year.

Yesterday's game doesn't fare well for the average for the rest of the season.

I decided to look more into how Ainge is doing this year compared to last through the first 3 games. This is his Senior year and should have better stats to make a case for the NFL.

2006
52-79
807 yds
7 TD
4 INT

2007
81-124
796 yds
6 TD
1 INT

29 more completions over last year, yet 11 less yards. TD's are down, and less INT's (thanks to 1-2 yd screens/swings) and Pass Efficiency has dropped ~40 points compared to last year.

You can attribute some dropoff to the new receivers not being able to get any semblance of YAC, but Ainge's senior year isn't looking to be his best year numbers wise.

Well, I'm not trying to defend anyone here, but we have played pretty good competition. The stats will look better after we play the cream puffs.

Again, not trying to defend, but I do expect the stats to get better. I also expect us to finish 5-7.

Ainge will be 2nd-3rd round.

I don't care what our record is, fact is Ainge is a big, tall, reasonably mobile quarterback who was trained under the same guy that produced Peyton and Eli Manning. He makes good reads, has decent pocket presence and a rocket arm.

He loses one round each for having a mediocre starting record and a history of injury.

Yeah, because coaching a qb with the pedigree of the Mannings is that difficult. He's the Phil Jackson of offensive coordinators.

I agree, but we're not the guys picking the players. Likewise with the guys whose opinions actually make a difference the NBA, Phil Jackson is still viewed as one of the greatest coaches ever.

Barring injury or catastrophic performance the rest of the season, no way Ainge is still on the table after the first day.

I was thinking along the same lines and looked ahead to the defensive rankings of the teams remaining. Only Arkansas and UK are ranked in the bottom half of the nation. We still have several good defenses left to play, so unless some changes are made, the offensive stats won't likely get much better if at all.

Offense rankings are split about 50-50 so the D may be able to make some headway depending.
