my thoughts on this subject: anyone that has ever smoked weed knows you dont smoke weed before you play football, come on. all these stories are bogus. you dont get high to go hit someone or run a route no matter how much you like to get high. the two things just dont go together..unless you are playing madden

take 100 pot heads and 100 that don't smoke and see which ones are more successful.

Take 100 people who don't drink and 100 who do and see which ones are more successful. Really, some of you are retarded. Writing off bud and acting as if it's a life-ruiner... while you turn around and crack open a beer. ****ing hypocrites.

Are we related? Dad was MP

Well actually mine was AP (Air Police), but no one ever seems to know what that means, so I just say MP.

I was MI...

Army, I'd assume? Did you do any language training at DLI in Monterey?

If so, you're probably my brother, lol.

As a daily smoker much of my life (still burn about a doob a week, usually saturday nights) I have to admit that tweedz seem to make one a bit lazy. But alcohol, man...that stuff ruins lives, absolutely.

Weed might make you a bit less ambitious, but alcohol can ruin your ability to hold your job.

Neither should be done in excess, and neither should be illegal.

First of all, let's define "stoned". If it's weed that we are talking about and they were "stoned" on the sideline then they were doing it in the locker room OR on the sideline. Now, if we are talking something else then any Gator loving idiot should be turning players in 'cuz that becomes serious. It's not that ANY substance abuse is not serious, but defining "abuse" (as it pertains to weed) is critical because it doesn't linger. Heck, this just smacks of naive simplicity (I am fighting back the urge to use more descriptive adjectives).

The NCAA needs to set policies to clean this up instead of enabling it. If they would create a level playing ground then we could eliminate the thug factor. The NCAA needs to create a third party drug testing agency that all programs must subscribe to and they regulate who is eligible or ineligible. The coaches and schools need to to be taken out of the decision making process. That would make the players directly responsible to the NCAA.
.....maybe like the one that just absolutely "witch hunted" Lance Armstrong, had zero evidence outside of disgruntled former team mates that were forced into his shadow or finally got their shot and were caught? Come the F*** on!!! Can you imagine? Every kid that leaves a school and tells his B.S. story and they prosecute without hard evidence. Do you really want that? As a matter of fact, do you think Armstrong should or should NOT be prosecuted? I'm seriously curious. This is all just idiocy.

Based on the number of UT players booted for substance abuse we could put together an All-Stoned Team that would include such notables as:

D. Rogers WR
J. Jackson SS
L. Coker RB
Well, those were caught.....Tony R., Cobb, Webb.....it goes on and on.....Amsler.......need I comtinue with JUST the obvious?

When this country starts making public policy based on the habits of 18-20 year olds, we have a problem.

At that age, no one is mature enough to make a reasonable decision. I know---I was there. And I was a dumda$$; like most. Reality is a wonderful thing. No escape needed.
When this country spends BILLIONS of dollars every year and, through their inept efforts, give birth to an industry that is now dominated by illegal aliens that use our public lands to fund THEIR cartels while endangering every innocent citizen that may stumble upon the "grow", then I say you and your ilk are f-ing idiots that live in a dream world and I fear the day that you venture out of your insulated, "glass and mirrors" life and hike to a waterfall.....only to find yourself in the middle of a government created situation that proves harmful. Come on. Are you really as insulated from reality as you sound, or is this post a "knee-jerk" reaction to your opposition to illegal drugs in general? If it's the later then I feel your pain. I HATE that we even have to talk about this subject, but reality is reality.

Spot on. Same reason most college kids are democrats......most haven't had the experience of paying taxes and having real responsibilities. It's not their fault, they're just not at that point in their life yet.
Now, I completely agree with this post!!

:loco:Time to legalize it, not for the privileged athletes, who may need to be clean in order to level competition (pot for some may actually be an advantage on the field, more resistant to pain, better able to concentrate in the moment, get into the zone, etc..), but for the countless millions each year who are now criminalized in our society for a drug less harmful than both alcohol and tobacco. When are we going to realize that no one ever wins the war on drugs, it has no end. Yet we do know the losers, and that is us, and each new generation of kids we send right down the criminal toilet for smoking a little weed. :loco:
Hey, let's meet on the strip for some beer! LMAO.

Having spent some time working in Law Enforcement, the vast majority of the law enforcement officers out there despise drugs and drug users. I somehow doubt they will ever start overlooking any of it unless their are in the minority that is not totally on the up and up or the few that think pot is more of a recreational drug, but believe me most don't.
Yeah, that's part of the problem. They don't pay enough to hire people with a heavy dose of common sense.

I don't think they should test for anything unless it's performance-enhancing.

This testing players for smoking weed is flat out stupid.

Wow. Haven't read past this quote so I may be repetitive..can't believe your opinion is prevalent. I'm not a fan of the NCAA but they test for pot to keep young men like DR from destroying their lives. It has nothing to do with football. As the previous poster stated, pot may not be as dangerous as many legal things like alcohol and of course alcohol abuse may be more destructive but the recreational use of pot is worse long term IMO. I am a military officer and I know a lot of alcohol drinkers that function at high levels but pot seemingly removes the desire to be successful. And its illegal!

Hmm,so you say current generation just 'can't say NO' . SAD, drugs and alcohol abuse stronger than character in last few college generations.:hi:
This and your previous post illustrate the narrow minded opinion that creates dependant societies. I am a HUGE capatalist and entrepenuer and I can tell that you have spent your life as either:
1) Extremely insulated
2) Following orders created by others
or
3) a combination of the two
Now, if I need, for production or safety sake, to have an extremely "clean" work shop or can save a buck on insurance then I will do it, but the stupidity of your reasoning leads me to belive that you are a sheeple and need not try to speak with authority about a subject that you can't and don't understand. It hurts your position. That is just a pointer from a conservative with an independantly funtioning brain. Again, IJS

Once two strangers climbed ol' Rocky Top
Lookin' for a moonshine still
Strangers ain't come down from Rocky Top
Reckon they never will

I believe that the spirit behind this is that no one else, not the government, not a church, and surely not a sanctimonious ******* has a right to tell you what to do as long as your actions don't infringe the rights of others. Prohibition didn't do much but make Al Capone rich, and our "War on Drugs" accomplishes about the same. I don't take any recreational drugs, but I do think people have the right to create their own heaven or hell. I think the government is harming our immune systems by requiring an unbelievable number of vaccinations to get into college. So, they make us take vaccinations that have been outlawed in France and put us in jail for pot. Makes no sense to me.
Dang, Greg. If you aren't a lawyer then you need to reconsider your calling. Beautifully stated!!

Thanks! No way to predict the future obviously, but I'm thinking about a Navy career really seriously. My current rotation is in San Diego right now at the Naval Medical Center in Balboa, and I'm liking what I see so far!

Balboa is nice. Dropped a lot of baby seals out of my C-130 in the bay. Aunt lived in SD and I got to visit her many times when I was active duty. Love that part of the country.

The rest of the world and espn would love to dethrone the sec they are no doubt looking. Due to the fact usc, and the rest of the darlings can't beat a mediocre sec team.

Actually USC has dominated SEC teams when they have played them over the years.

Sidenote: I, too did my time at Balboa. I understand why the government is shutting it down......that is the absolute BEST horizon on the SoCal coast (exceptions being Santa Barbara AND Big Sur...if you carry the "SoCal" label that far up). Just like the naval/marine bootcamp, it's simply become too valuable to NOT sell it off. It's a shame, but true. The good news is that you'll soon be able to own a condo overlooking San Diego harbor, Point Loma and the island and smoke a doob on your deck. LOL. I'm just kidding about the last part!

Ummmm really? Just how many PAC-12 teams have we beaten lately? Unless of course we didn't even meet your definition of mediocre. And WE were playing UCLA.. Face it. Kiffin is gonna win a bunch of NCs there at USC, and it kills UT fans on a daily basis to admit this.

Never saw a teenager that didnt think everybody he knew was stoned
That's very "Dylan-esque" and true. There's a reason for that observation. LOL. I also never met a businessman that didn't think everyone cheated on their wives because they did or cheated on their taxes....because they did.....Capish? Your observation is a perfect commentary on the human condition....just like Dylan.

I doubt that very much. I'd say they test so that they aren't liable if something goes wrong.

If the NCAA was testing in order to 'keep young men like DR from destroying their lives', they'd be testing all students, not just athletes.

That one fact illustrates their motivations.

This stuff has gone on forever. When I was in high school a buddy and I used to buy weed at Gibbs Hall. This was a VERY long time ago. People weren't quite so uptight about it as they are now, for better or worse.

Oh, by the way, don't you remember? We pot-smoking liberals LOVE to pay taxes...
