Disappointed in some fans

Well said, sir. I have very much respect for MOST of the Vols fans I know. Living here in Tennessee for most of my life, pretty much everyone I love is VFL.

I just came to watch a ballgame, but I learned a lesson. As stated before, when we are in the Swamp we will try to be as gracious to every UT fan we meet.

Thank you for that. We will get through this period.

I never have and never would leave a game or quit watching early no matter the score. I will say that I was very close to turning the TV off and getting wasted at half time. I am very glad I didn't and was able to witness one of the greatest come backs in UT football history.

I wish I could have been at the game but unfortunately I live in Austin, TX now and can't make the games like I used to.

Was walking across the Henley last night after the win when a Florida car with stickers drove by and a Tennessee fan threw a water bottle at it pretty hard. The gator fans were rightfully upset and they stopped the car on the side and got out. The classless person who did it already ran off by then..

No amount of alcohol makes that acceptable.

You are right. But I have heard there are several former members of the POTS Band who got cups of urine thrown at them as they entered the swamp. And I am sure there is plenty of folks on here who have gone down there who can tell you about plenty of incidents they have witnessed or been the victim of.

These Florida fans should consider themselves lucky that idiot didn't find a rock to throw. But for what it's worth, it seems both schools need to see what they might do about reducing this kind of nonsense. Like telling their players to curb the trash talk. All that is good for is igniting stupidity.

Well I have to admit that Im one of those "left early" idiots. Last year we were in Gainesville sitting in the endzone 3 rows up.

I just knew UT had the game won so I made the suggestion that we go ahead and leave in the beginning of the 4th to beat traffic.

We all know what happened next.

I'm certain he'll go to UF forums and address his fellow UF fans whenever Gator fans display rude or bad behavior just like the OP. I'm certain of it! LOL

Fanbases are pretty much the same as political parties; both piss and moan about the other party's behavior but then bend over backwards to condone it when their own party acts out.

Because you know me so well. As a matter of fact I would say something to somebody who was being a d*ck. No matter what team they're puling for.

Our fanbase is likely the same as yours. We have a segment that are good people that would do the right thing and call out bad behavior by someone no matter what team they support.

Then a segment that will complain about the other fanbase, but when incidents by their own fanbase is brought up, they'll pretty much turn into children and use the "WAAA THEY ARE WORSE!" line of excuse making.

It's sad that grown men and women get this worked up over a game played by 18-22 year olds.

Well had I purchased the tickets I would've had the foresight to try and sit in the visitors section. The tickets were given to us as a gift. I came on this site to see if any misplaced Vols fans would like to trade their tickets for ours at no cost. We would've rather have sat in the visitors section, but I wasn't about to turn down free tickets to this game.

I think the whole thing is - if I don't personally talk trash to you and I'm not disrespectful then you should direct your anger where it belongs. I know that the vast majority of Vols fans are good upstanding people and I may have met the exception to the rule. I know that not all Florida fans act like I do, but I don't deserve to pay for their mistakes.

I was born in Florida but have lived most of my life in Tennessee. 99% of the people that I know and love are VFL. I just happen to like a certain football team (even when they suck) and I don't agree that my choice of team merits my being treated like trash.

i don't disagree, but i've had similar experiences at away stadiums you've described in your post above. i experienced it in Neyland in 2000, as my seats for the FL game that year were in the FL section.

FL fans, in my experience were the most rude (not to say all, just the ones i've experienced live games with), GA fans are the most belligerent....MSU fans just downright mean...bama fans just plain arrogant, even when they sucked out loud. the most fun fan base i've ever been around in a live setting...LSU and Ole Miss. hands down.

just my personal experience. not a blanket statement on all.

Honestly, my worst experience has been with Vandy fans. Yeah it's the smallest of the conference but per capita they were rude and obnoxious and just looking to argue. Four in front of me at a UT/Vandy game from 2008 were removed from the game because they kept turning around and taunting the group I was with, and then tried to say we started it. The security guard finally witnessed them and hauled them away.

To be fair to other Vandy fans in the section, several clapped when they were hauled away.

the only vandy games i've ever been to have been in Knoxville, so i've never been around Vandy fans at a game.:)

Then what are you doing on a UT board? Why aren't you over at Swamp Gas or whatever it's called and addressing the bad behavior of UF fans? Need me or the others on here to regale you with horror stories of our experiences with bad Gator fans?

Just don't know what you expect being a hated rival sitting in the home team's section.

You can hate someone without being a total dick about it. Throwing water, verbally telling someone to get the f&$k out, or laying your hands on someone is just plain juvenile.

If you don't know where the line is at, that is sad and says a lot about a part of our fan base.

I agree completely. A little ribbing is one thing but I always try and treat anyone around me with respect. Now if they cross the line its on from there. Walking out we walked in and around Gator fans. I didn't need to say anything to them, they were already feeling it. On the way back to Florida we passed a bunch of Gators. We had the flags in the windows and shakers hanging out of the trunk. We politely pulled up, rode next to them for a few seconds and passed them on. Nothing else needed to say or do. Be a class act. Just because it happened at the swamp doesn't mean Neyland deserves the same reputation.

Apparently we have some fans that are so outraged by the bad behavior they've heard about other fanbases that they decided the best way to deal with it is be just as big of d-bags.

And the brilliant part is when called out, they can just point and say "Nu-UHHH DEY DID IT FIRST!!!"

I still can't figure out how I am a hated rival. Do I or have I ever played for UF? No. So how am I personally deserving of being treated like crap just for liking a certain team?

Why am I posting here? Because I live in Tennessee. I work in Tennessee. The people that were d bags are part of my home state.

People take a GAME personal and that's insane to me.

If I was up chomping in their face when UF scored, that would be different. If I was cheering when a Vol got hurt, that would be different.

Just being a d*ck to me because of the color of my shirt is nothing but pure ignorance. That applies to every fan base.

Apparently as I did not start this thread, a VFL did - I am not the only one who thinks the way we treat people need to change.

So your standpoint is that because some Gator fan acted like a tool, that gives Vols fans carte blanche to treat EVERY Gator fan with disrespect?

Seems legit.
