if i'm going downtown, i trip to DTG&B is pretty much a guarantee.

i'm also a big fan of Aubrey's.

yep... Sam and Andy's is about 1/4 mile east of Concord on Kingston Pike... also next to Food City in Fountain City (~3/4 miles N of 640)

Vic and Bill's is still open too - 3 miles north of downtown on Broadway... still good

If you pass the Wasabi house you are going the right way.

UGH, Wasabi's is god awful hibachi. Might be the best in Knoxville, but the small town of 2000 I moved from has better. Oh and Benihana in Memphis used to be awesome, but I heard they burned down.

Anyway, back to Knoxville.

Oh, and BBQ and Knoxville shouldn't be put in the same sentence together. If you want the best in TN, it's going to take you about 6 hrs to get to it. Neely's, Interstate, Rendevous, Three Little Pigs, Corky's(it's ok) and maybe Bozo's!! If you ever go to Memphis and see Top's BBQ, drive away quickly, Knoxville's is better!!

I'm just gonna let it be known I make the best bbq in mid tn, but in Knox go see my cousin at Max's BBQ..Not quite a year old yet, but I've given him a lot of tips and if he took any of them it should be very tasty..By the way any place that uses gas and hickory chips to cook is not real BBQ..I use only hickory only way to cook real BBQ..

Guess you haven't been in Memphis in a while. Benihana has been back open for several months. Little Pigs used to have good Q when I was a kid and I'm over fifty. The Little Pigs in Memphis are the red headed step children of Tops in the fast food barbecue arena.

OK, maybe I'm a dining snob, but here's the scoop:

Calhoun's serves terrible BBQ in a good gameday atmosphere.
Ye Olde is a nice rustic place, but nothing fancy.
I will never go back to Wasabi -- their goal is now to rush in as many eager patrons as possible, serve mediocre hibachi with no style, beat the goofy drum, and get you out.
The Orangery is closed down.

That being said...

For good food with a Southern flair, I'd suggest Bistro By the Tracks or RouxBarb, both in the Bearden area. FYI, RouxBarb is BYOB, so save some money and pack a nice bottle of wine.

If you want a steak, go with Ruth's Chris, or Fleming's in Turkey Creek.

Nama for Sushi.

Savelli's or Naples for Italian.

Oh, and we had a great dinner at Copper Cellar in Bearden the other day. Downstairs on the strip is another option.

For seafood, Chesapeakes downtown or Bonefish in Turkey Creek.

I would go with M & M BBQ on Middlebrrok for some tasty Q. Also, Bonefish on Bearden Hill is much better, food and service wise than the one Turkey Creek. I second Aubreys, the one in Bearden has a decent patio and a good selection of draft beer.

No way. Lakeside Tavern is god-awful. I've been twice. Both times they thought "medium-rare" meant burnt. I'll never go back or recommend anyone go there.

Didn't know they had a horseshoe pit there. I know Toddy's Back Door does or did.

Although out of the way, Captain Tom's BBQ in Oliver Springs is as good as any barbecue I have ever had. Small town feeling with great BBQ and desserts.

Did anyone ever eat D.P. Dough? It was a calzone place and the strip. $4.50 for any calzone you wanted, delivered in roughly 15 minutes. They also had $2.00 BudLite tall boys all the time. Still the best calzone I have ever eaten. Sadly they were only open for about 18 months.
