Do some of you guys mean to sit there and confess that you actually sit down and WATCH the draft coverage??? HOLY $%#@! I was going to watch it, but I had some paint I needed to watch drying. I hear crazy stories that you can wait until that night or, if you must, check on the internet from time to time to see who has been drafted. Maybe that's was just a rumor.
I watch maybe the first 20 picks and then tune back in when my team is about to make their 1st and 2nd round pick... possibly 3rd.
Or if I think a Vol is going to be drafted soon.
I think the thread-starter may have misheard Mr. Kiper. DRLOOMIS, correct me if you heard a different clip, but I just listened to a podcast with Kiper and McShay, and this was the actual exchange:
Kiper: How about Eric Berry, Safety From Tennessee
McShay: Stud
Kiper: Is he the next Ed Reed? We'll watch him. Everybody is going to be talking about Taylor Mays. Taylor Mays goes back; he's the big safety -- maybe a little too big. But I think Eric Berry is the next Ed Reed. We'll watch him.
Complimentary? Yes. But not a prediction that he is going to go number 1.
4/21 is a bit misleading.
Why stop at 21? Why not 20? Why not 19?
Perhaps because, in 1988 (21 years ago), 2 safeties were drafted in the top 5. Outside of 1988, a safety in the top 5 is pretty darn rare. Using the past 21 years is awfully convenient for your argument.
No position on defense is drafted in the top 5 with less frequency than safety. And only centers, tight ends, and kickers have been drafted in the top 5 fewer times than safeties.
The bottom line is, it doesn't happen very often.
ed reed comparison that is a joke berry is the best player period nfl or ncaa or in the world and anybody that passes on him will regret it when they meet again
Wow, is that ever harsh. In a related story, the predraft rankings for QBs of the 2010 Draft Class rank Jonathan Crompton last and call him "one of the worst Quarterbacks on any level"

It would be nice if he did go number one overall, the last time we did have a Vol that went number was none other than Peyton Manning. But my safest bet would be in the range from 3-5. Aaron Curry was the best defensive player coming into the draft last year, if Berry goes this year he'll be the best defensive player if not the best overall athlete. Go EB.
