Did we put too many eggs in the Cam Akers basket?

I don't think OP is serious. He just looked for a way he could use "eggs in the basket" before anyone else did before Easter.

It's been a very long time and recruiting coverage wasn't the big business in 1986 like it is today but I don't remember many people feeling disappointed that we had to "settle" for Cobb over LeRoy... He certainly was the better player in college. Maybe it was a joke? I don't know.

I know I felt disappointed.

Basically, unless Jordan or Coleman outperforms their star rating, we will have two RB's this season.....Kelly and Chandler. Reminds me of Majors going all out recruiting Leroy Thompson and having to settle for a lesser Knoxvillian named Reggie Cobb.

Reggie Cobb was not a lesser running back. He made poor decisions but was one of the best backs Tennessee has ever seen. My opinion

No we didnt. Hence the reason why we took 3 RBs this cycle. Also I'd wager that Coleman comes in our most physically ready of the 3 RBs.

I think he meant the other guy was more sought after at the time they were being recruited. :good!:

Fils-Aime has no wiggle according to eyes on. I'll always remember him as the guy that lost the Scar game. 1st attempt--fumble. Hope he changes my mind.

He didn't lose the SCar game.

Dobbs had his worst game of the year, we had a td called back due to a block in the back, our defense couldn't get off the field because it allowed a 100+ yard game to somebody nobody's ever heard of and got punked by a Highschool quarterback.

CFAs mistake was only one of a ton by the team overall they cost them the game and the SECe.

But it's no Georgia, Florida, or North Carolina

We're 11th in the country in terms of the number of blue chip players coming out of the state over the last 5 years.....and the numbers coming out of Tennessee, particularly the midstate area, is growing exponentially on an annual basis.

Florida was #2, Georgia #5, North Carolina #9. We're far more competitive than we've ever been and closing the gap.

I think people forget that not every player blossoms in their Fr or Soph seasons. Sometimes they need to take their great talent and add significant S&C as well as learn how to succeed on the next level. I feel good about CFA.

Sometimes even that doesn't help. Look at Houston, Tinsley and the other two that did well as freshman in the '01 Syracuse game. I thought we were set for the next four years! Then, to have Riggs come in and really have an enviable backfield!

Who would have thought we would have had the great trooper Taylor hooping and holering only to teach 'em to run to get tackled!

Where do you get your info? Trooper Taylor didn't arrive at Tennessee until 2004 and we had a solid running attack that year. Houston rushed for over 1,000 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry with 8 TD's in '04.

LeRoy Thompson going to Penn St. was a big deal. Moreso from a standpoint of losing a local player to Joe Paterno & Penn. St.

That came on the heels of John Johnson going to Maryland in basketball. I know they're 2 different sports but back then losing 2 top Knoxville kids to other schools was pretty unheard of.

Asst Coach Tom Deaton was recruiting John Johnson for Tennessee. When Johnson signed with Maryland, he said that was where God wanted him to go. Deaton's response was, "if God wanted him to go to Maryland, what chance did I have of getting him to Tennessee!!"

Obviously, you don't understand English composition or you would have understood what "Then," represented.

Never said Taylor was there in '01. Didn't say Riggs was either.

Those two backs sucked! The O'line is what carried them and that team!

Too bad we missed on Akers. He looked really good in FSU's Spring Game Saturday. 10 carries for 87 yards. I hope Chandler comes in ready and turns heads like Akers did.

I guess you subscribe to the Trump belief that ending ignorant statements with exclamation points somehow adds credibility. That is not true at all... Cedric Houston had a good career at Tennessee (over 3,000 all purpose yards) and was a fine college player. Our offensive line back then was good but hardly dominating.
