Did the recruiting services completely fail us?

I am so glad this season is now over but it got me thinking about something. On paper we have a talented team that have many 4* and some 5* guys. Yet it seems like the majority of these guys are just not that good. So I wonder, ist it all justpoor coaching? Or did the recruiting services who rated guys like KMac, Philips, Kongbo, JG, Calloway just complete miss judge their talent?

I am thinking its a mixture of the two. I think we have had terrible coaching but also, some of these guys were not as good as reported.

Yeah, all the other players were starred correctly, just not ours. Tennessee has had the crappiest 2 coaches in SEC history back to back. This isn't on the kids.

Bad coach. Bad guy. Bad system. Bad philosophy. Bad results. Period.

Even the players who are good enough to be NFL Rookie of the Year only averaged 8.75 carries per game at UT (and it took a player quitting to get UP to 8.75)...

3 and 4 stars on paper, 1 star on the field:)

3 and 4 stars in the right system,!1 stars in the butch system.
Like herbstreet said about Shaw: “he recruits to his system very well “
He recruits to what looks good in the rankings to cover up the fact that he sucks and uses excuses to further cover up

OP good topic. Recruiting services may miss on small handful of players...too high or too low, but over a large sample size, they're correct. It's about coaching... like Barnes vs Jones.

Well documented Jones chased off too many talented players. This means that what they sold didn't equal reality when they got on campus. Which may be the biggest problem.

This season was doomed by Butch's offense, AND the fact that we didn't have a QB who is at least serviceable, compounded by Butch choosing first time OC, who may be HS level at best. You could scout our offense with a blind man who never played football. Then throw disfunctional D on top of it, which though couple key leaders hurt, and you wonder what these guys do in practice.

Recruiting matters, but coaching malpractice over rides everything.

No, biggest failure is the staff Not having the players developed. Starts with S&C, we have guys that are juniors that looked as if they never touched weights
