I was asleep at midnight last night (and if you have small children I’m sure you were too.) I had a pleasant dream, though, about Pruitt being told to clean out his office on Monday because his buyout had dropped (FYI, Tee is now the interim and is asking people to call him black Belichick).

Anyway, I just wanted to ask, did Pruitt’s buyout actually drop when the ball dropped last night or is that just a silly rumor? If you believe it’s true, why do you believe this? What report or language in the contract are you basing that on?

It may have dropped, but he isnt getting fired. They're gonna give him one more year, though I'm sure they're already working on a plan for if it doesnt go well this year. I'd say the first mistake against a team we should beat, or if he goes 0-3 against the Big 3, he is gone. His seat is scorching, but the lack of spring practice, summer conditioning and a fall camp has bought him an asterisk on last year.

Fulmers contract year ends on 12/31. Pruitt’s year ends on 1/31.
I just remember that the same things were said about Butch’s buyout while we were waiting for the hammer to drop in 2017. And then it turned out that the contract year was meaningless and it was all about paying him the same stipulated dollar amount per month. Each month we waited was just a month where we paid his salary instead of his buyout.

Yeah I don’t think he’s getting fired, but when people like Hubbs and Ubben won’t categorically rule it out, you gotta have hope.

Correct. The money is there, especially since Butch comes off the payroll on - you guessed it - Feb 1.

Prior to the idiot extension UT could have bought out Pruitt for around 6 million. It’s 60% of his contract.

Fulmer is oddly silent and I think they are using the investigation as a reason it. It seems that Fulmer is content to give him one last chance to right the ship. Many of the other contracts will expire this year such as Ansley. My fear is that they do just well enough and then we’re looking at another extension.

Buyouts can always be negotiated, so it is not very relevant if it dropped or not...

Bottom Line: Will more than likely be here another year... Tick Toc

We seem to do a good job of keeping 2 HCs on the payroll at the same time for the past 13 years.

Although I support everyone's right to speak their minds, but these cleverly disguised "Fire Pruitt" post, I find them senseless and destructive to the program and fan base.

What exactly are you trying to say? We have the right to speak our minds, until it doesn't fit your narrative? What is senseless about wanting change in a very poorly coached, uninspired, losing football program? Let me be clearly destructive...Pruitt should be fired for failure as a HC at UT and PF should exit at the same time in whatever face-saving manner deemed fit. Neither of these guys are football geniuses and should be replaced...this year.

I wish it were true. It would be nice if the athletic department knew how to handle money. Jim harbough was begging for his job back at Michigan this year because his contract was running out. He was begging for an extention. We hand them out like its a coupon to a fast food restaurant.

Everyone has the right to speak their minds on a message board and i think you exaggerate the effects that message boards have in my opinion.

Gomer Cornbread is what's destructive to the fanbase with all due respect.

- Statistically the WORST SEC head coach in decades by amount of blowout losses

- Last time we had a 3 win season go all the way back to a Mark Banks led squad that went 3-5 in 1924

- 95th out of 127 D1 teams in the Simple Rating System in 2020

- 108th out of 127 D1 teams for Offensive Production in 2020

- Has the dubious honor of being blown out by both Vanderbilt and Kentucky in just a few short years

- Gomer doesn't even bother to interview Jimmy Brumbaugh for the DL coaching job then finds out he can't stand him and fires him at halftime of the Kentucky game in front of other coaches and players which is one of the biggest moronic moves you can make and really ridiculous to do that in such a fashion. Fun fact here also - did you know that Tennessee only allowed Kentucky 75 yards on 25 offensive plays in the first half of that game. Brumbaugh is FIRED at halftime of that game and the team goes out and Kentucky gains 219 yards in the 2nd half.

- Only practices a couple of times going into the 2019 game against Georgia State and not only loses but is thoroughly thrashed by a team that should never beat a team like UT. Then follows that up by losing to BYU the following week.

- Chastises the fanbase by not having enough people show up for the Orange and White game his first season.

I could go on and on and on..........

Look, the fans aren't destroying the program. The only senseless thing at this point would be to retain him for another year. The sheer amount of money the football program will hemorrhage this fall if this guy is brought back - whew. And it will invariably set us back another year that we wouldn't have wasted if they would just go ahead and make the correct decision in the next 7-10 days and not delay the inevitable. I am still holding onto hope that it's in the works and they are just trying to figure out how much ammo they have with the investigation and see how much they can lower the buyout on the golden parachute they'll offer him to go back home to daddy.

In the Reality of a Pandemic, I don't see A Coaching Change. Maybe, Next Year a better and/or bitter Pill (that being another Year) to swallow. What it will do, is give the AD and Board a chance to say you got 4 years and no progress. We understand you inherited a train wreck, you did have a lot of leeway with the staff, and you were programed for success in doing so...You Failed.

Well, there you go, that is how bad UT's talent was, these coaches didn't wake up one and forget how to coach,it is not the Xs and Os, it's the Jimmy's and the Joes.

An asterisk that every other program had, and most faired much better, even first year coaches.

This is a train going off tracks and for some reason we are determined to wait until it is completely destroyed. Sad.

I’ve been dating this, but now it’s about as close to a 100% thing as it’s gonna be. Pruitt has next year for sure. He’s not going anywhere this year. Our admin doesn’t have the balls to go after Freeze.

yeah, it dropped by one month.. he gets 60% of ever how many months are left on his contract..

His buyout is prorated by the amount of time remaining on the contract. He gets 60% of his remaining salary. There's no one special date that makes it drop.

So technically the buyout "drops" every time he receives a paycheck, but of course that also means he just received 100% of the salary due instead of 60%.
