Did Pearl know what he was doing?

If you think Bobby Maze is a better option than Ramar Smith, you're sadly and epically mistaken.

Why would Pearl bench Ramar during the NCAA tourney? We need to look at other options and Maze may or not be the answer but Ramar was never going to be handed the keys to Bruce's luxury car again

Which in no way makes Maze a better option than Ramar. I can't wait to revive this thread if we sign Maze. People will be calling for his benching by December 1st.

Addition by subtraction folks. Its not about who is better but what if Remar was a potential cancerous situation for team chemistry. What has Tabb or Ryan done other than do everything they have ever been asked to do and represent the university in a positive light.

I've never understood why people are ravng about Maze... I guess we'll soon find out who's right or wrong.

Yet another example as to why newbies shouldn't be allowed to create absurd threads

Right: If you've been on the board a long time, you must have a monopoly on intelligence and wisdom--talk about stupid post.

Players get run off programs all the time--Jim Calhoun just got rid of two of his scholarship players who either weren't contributing or were bad apples, or both--and when you're a bit of a bad apple, have broken rules a few times AND are not a very good player, you stand a pretty good chance of getting chased. These two cats had issues, had run out of chases, and were booted. I doubt very much that Pearl kicked them off the team merely to free up scholies--clearly there were some rules/school violations and probably grade problems, too--but that definitely happens (Spurrier and other SEC coaches have done it many times) and it may have occurred to the coach in making the decisions that these two weren't worth the aggravation.

Childress bitched, cried, and pouted all season about being removed from the rotation. He's a spoiled brat. He's unbelievably lucky to be on scholarship at a high major and has the audacity to complain. He can't get out of here quick enough.

Childress needs to just go focus on his family. For the good of the program Ryan, go settle down with your hot wife to be.

You don't have to cut anyone in order to yank a scholly.

And in case you haven't noticed, integrity is a word CBP fully understands.

Maze may not be a better option than Ramar, but Ramar's not an option anymore. I'd settle for somebody who can dribble with both hands and not turn the ball over at this point.

Yikes ... I just described Jordan Howell!!! Kill me now ...

I absolutely believe that these 2 were removed from the team for good reasons, however, I also think Pearl saw an opportunity to help the team. It is huge to free up schollys if you believe that there is at least someone out there that can help you next year(Maze and Harris or Maze an extra for the 09 class). Smith was never going to be the point for a national title contender and Pearl made his mind up on that. Crews was a little more shocking to me but we have the depth to overcome his loss. Rewind 4 years and it will reveal just how far Pearl has brought the program, what season could we have ever lost 2 potential starters and still be talking titles........IN BRUCE WE TRUST

Wow. Just wow.

IMO Pearl was trying to send a message early in the offseason that drug use and failing grades aren't going to be tolerated by his program. Hopefully putting the fear of God in the rest of his players to study and stay of trouble. :twocents:

That depends on whether or not you consider missing 90% of your shots turnovers.

I find it interesting that Fulmer gets alot of crap for player discipline when we have had Major, Crews, and Passey 4 players in three years dismissed from out team. Thats an even bigger deal when you only have 12 scholarship players on the team.

I think it's possible that Pearl decided earlier this year that he would probably have to dismiss Ramar and Crews and didn't do so until now for the good of the team. Just my own speculation. I definitely think that's how Pitino handled Caracter. He needed him last season but not next season.

I've never seen Maze play. I doubt a 3-star JUCO is better than Ramar. I agree that we need "somebody," and it appears that our best bet is to take a chance on him. The other poster correctly noted that Ramar is not an option. Maze is. If not Maze, then who?

As for team chemistry, given the seniors we have lost the last two years, the dynamics of the team in terms of leadership is about to get a serious makeover. As Pearl noted, it is now Tyler's team. It's possible that Crews and/or Ramar could have undermined the chemical balance of the keys being passed from Chris/JaJuan to Tyler. I'm not in the locker room - just an observation from here. I figure it was Chris/C.J. in '06 and Chris/Dane in '07. I think settled-upon player leadership is VERY important, and divisions can undermine potentially great teams.

Its never a good thing to lose your starting point guard and one of your possibly starters in the post. If nothing else these guys would provide depth. These guys both had every chance to make it on this team. I think these two have been kept around probably longer than they should have been. Have we really gotten this delusional when we think our god...excuse me coach...decided I'm gonna kick off two of my upper classmen including our starting point guard the day of the team banquet so I can go sign this JUCO guy that also had problems and that Pearl had some "master plan". It did have anything to do with these guys nearly failing out ever year and failing drug tests every month but that Pearl had a master plan.

Ryan has reached his full potential. He did what Pearl needed him to do by adding depth and providing toughness. Once CBP got his recruits in , Ryan was outclassed. He does have a hot wife to show for his tenure though.

Pic went with wrong post, sorry. The pic should have been in response to the post about Pearl and his ex-wife. Bruce seems to be going through a grieving process. Would love to be his wing man and help him get over the ex.
