I absolutely believe that these 2 were removed from the team for good reasons, however, I also think Pearl saw an opportunity to help the team. It is huge to free up schollys if you believe that there is at least someone out there that can help you next year(Maze and Harris or Maze an extra for the 09 class). Smith was never going to be the point for a national title contender and Pearl made his mind up on that. Crews was a little more shocking to me but we have the depth to overcome his loss. Rewind 4 years and it will reveal just how far Pearl has brought the program, what season could we have ever lost 2 potential starters and still be talking titles........IN BRUCE WE TRUST

I agree....I just wonder about the timing. Crews probably could have had another chance by the normal UT standards

Bruce knew what he was doing b/c he doesn't allow crap from his players.

Happens all the time. Pitino did it with Roderick Rhodes just to get Antwan Walker and is doing it again this year with Derrik Character

Yet another example as to why newbies shouldn't be allowed to create absurd threads

i'm sure bruce gave them a certain amount of time to get their act together and then when they didn't get their act together he felt it was time to cut the cord.

Reguarless of the reasons, this will end up being a move that makes us a better team and that is what I care about. Anyone who believes that coaches do not push players out of a program from time to time has their head buried in the sand

It's actually a good point here. It's entirely possible that Pearl determined that these two weren't going to be elite players and wanted to yank the scholarships, but just needed a good reason to do so. A speeding ticket wouldn't do it either.

It could be worse. When Tuberville went from Ole Miss to Auburn, he pulled the rug out from under six kids because he didn't think they could play.

Nobody is arguing with you when it concerns coaches doing that to players. It happens all the time. Heck, in Pearl's first year here, he suggested to one of the players that he wouldn't be getting much playing time and suggested that he transfer (can't remember the guys name right now). Bobby Knight did it at Indiana. Bunches of coaches do it.

Pearl would not just kick off Ramar Smith. Or Duke Crews. Or pretty much anybody already on the team to open up scholarships.

If I were a head coach and I saw 2 players who are not doing all they can do to reach individual and team goals I would think I would place them on a thinner sheet of ice than guys who I think can lead me to titles. That is my point..its nothing negative on Pearl. These 2 players just messed up at a time when Pearl may have more attractive options...or this might be a better example... your dating a girl who you know to be cheating on you but you dont tell her because the sex is great,, then you meet another one who is great in bed and all of a sudden you call your girl out on the cheating and you move on....:eek:k:

Yeah, Tanner Wild or any of those guys would have been candidates before Crews or Smith.

Wild is a walk-on.......answer this honestly, If you had 2 lose to Scholly players off the team which 2 would you pick? I think the 2 that were dissmissed would be in most peoples top 3

If you think Bobby Maze is a better option than Ramar Smith, you're sadly and epically mistaken.

Uh... No.

I would much rather lose Prince and Childress. And Tabb.
I agree on Childress but I think Prince is a nice player. Forget about his point guard skills. Tabb is a glue guy and will defend anyone and is great for team chemistry unlike ramar.

You're nuts. Prince was 100x more productive than Crews. Childress and Tabb are a toss up, but I like Childress and Tabb both. Ramar could not shoot. Period. That wasn't going to change. I'm certainly not happy at all that he's gone, but if he's constantly breaking team rules (including classroom and drug issues) then he's just asking for it.
