Did McCoy practice this week?

Here is what I don't understand. Kelly Jolly tore her ACL just before the season started in 1996. She started and played a LOT in the NCAA tournament that same season. How is it that this injury has now been 9 months and we STILL can't get him on the field? Hasn't medical technology improved since then??
Rod Woodson tore his ACL in the first game of the 1995 season and was able to play in the Super Bowl later that season. So he was able to return to play in just under 5 months and that was almost 30 years ago.

Do u guys not understand the difference between what u Should do vs what you can do? How much longer did Woodson play after that ?

As a physician who has been through two ACL reconstructions, and a total of 4 ACL tears (I don’t have one in either knee now), I can attest to the risks of coming back from surgery to soon. There is no way around the fact that it takes months for the graft to develop a blood supply and develop ligamentous strength. Coming back too soon dramatically increases the risk of reinjury, from which the recovery process is significantly longer.
Full recovery includes more than just ligamentous strength. It involves reaching a point of symmetrical muscle strength as well. Finally, there is a big difference to be being strong enough to run in a straight line and being able to cut, cutting and cutting at speed, and cutting at speed at holding up with contact
People don’t realize when you rush through severe injuries you’re playing Russian roulette with not just the same muscle(s) you tore. It’s the other ones that have been overcompensating from that injury. Eventually they’ll give out and tear if not addressed. Ex. He didn’t even rush but just the most notable of the top of my head. Ronald Acuña tearing his left acl just before the 3 year anniversary of tearing his right one and that’s baseball. Nothing compared to how much more explosiveness is needed to be a sec db has to do. Who also has to tackle.

IMO He might start getting some snaps in November…New Mexico State would be a good safe game to let him play to see how he does both in the game and afterwards. My daughter’s knee never was right - post game swelling that didn’t really get better.
The only things that matter is how to get McCoy fully recovered - if he doesn’t play a meaningful snap this year that is fine. That young man has a shot at the NFL and that’s way more important than trying to have him play this season. We’ve got really good talent at the corners…hopefully Gibson isn’t out as long as some say. Hood and Redmond are both excellent corners.
