Did McCoy practice this week?

If the ACL tear is complete, playing on it won't hurt it further(though you increase risk of hurting something else because your body is naturally going to compensate for it using your other leg/etc), but the problem for a lot of football positions is you can no longer cut or pivot very well. Which for a position like CB, would be disastrous. The ACL is what provides stability for those movements.
You do realize how much a PG has to cut and pivot in a D1 basketball game right?

Not anywhere near as severe or important as a D1 DB.

Far easier to mitigate the problem in basketball than football. Much less area to defend and closer teammates to help if need be, not to mention the massive athleticism difference in general from womens basketball players and SEC football players.

Here is what I don't understand. Kelly Jolly tore her ACL just before the season started in 1996. She started and played a LOT in the NCAA tournament that same season. How is it that this injury has now been 9 months and we STILL can't get him on the field? Hasn't medical technology improved since then??
Playing women's basketball in 1996 is a lot different than playing SEC football. If he came back in October, that would still be a really fast recovery for a football player. As recently as 5-10 years ago, and ACL injury meant a full year recovery minimum.

I'm no NIL expert, but I would assume that his ability to actually play doesn't have anything to do with NIL money. If they were contracted employees, it would be a different story. Pay for Play is a different deal all together, I think.

he doesn't have to play to get NIL money. Just show up at events that are scheduled and he gets paid

Years ago, there was a big push for accelerated rehab after ACL reconstructions. A lot of that was brought on by Adrian Petersen. Then a study came out that pivot sport athletes returned to full play between months 6 and 9 had a 7 fold increase in re-rupturing their new ACL. So recently, most athletes won’t get released for contact/pivot sports until at least 9 months after surgery.

The severity of the tear and damage to the meniscus could play a part in the recovery time…. I suppose. I’m no Dr but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn

I dont think it's a good idea to put him out there for Georgia. Even if he is healthy, how do we know he will be that good this year? Save him for Miss St

I’m afraid Gibson and McCoy will be out against UGA. Expect a concerted effort by UGA to test the backups early. If their WRs are allowed get off the line, it’s going to be a long day.

As a physician who has been through two ACL reconstructions, and a total of 4 ACL tears (I don’t have one in either knee now), I can attest to the risks of coming back from surgery to soon. There is no way around the fact that it takes months for the graft to develop a blood supply and develop ligamentous strength. Coming back too soon dramatically increases the risk of reinjury, from which the recovery process is significantly longer.
Full recovery includes more than just ligamentous strength. It involves reaching a point of symmetrical muscle strength as well. Finally, there is a big difference to be being strong enough to run in a straight line and being able to cut, cutting and cutting at speed, and cutting at speed at holding up with contact

Torn both of mine. One in college (2012) left knee and the other in (2018) right knee. Rehabbing was way different for both. Everyone recovers and heals differently. My right now isn't as strong as the left, but the rehab on the left was way faster/better IMO. Still get weird feelings, aches, and pains but even under athletic training at my previous university, I was not cleared on my left until around 13 or so months.

I guess it shows the heart of a champion.....she was NOT going to lose out on a chance to win a natty..... Some athletes just have a different mindset
Just be glad if McCoy comes back close to his level of play from last season. The team doctors will clear him to play when he is ready. Additionally, Heupel will play him once he feels JM is ready for full contact.

Every injury and rehab process is different depending on the severity and stability in the ACL. I remember being at UT and working at American Eagle in 2012. I was coming 🏡 from work when I saw Derrick Rose tear his ACL.

The next year he was cleared for contact but he wasn’t fully confident in his knee. Bulls fans were very upset but D Rose started having more knee issues like his meniscus.

I say that to say idk Jermod’s situation but the kid is a baller. Playing corner is the hardest position on the field outside of QB.

The most important thing is his health and well being. It sucks that he tore it while working out. That’s a tough injury for a CB to come back from, especially as these receivers get bigger, faster, stronger.

This coaching staff along with the young man have to consider his future and bringing him back too quickly can jeopardize that future. When an organization puts those young men's best interest as a priority it will reap dividends down the road. He'll be back when it's the right time and not before.
