With the extra practices and the bowl game, where and how did our team improve, specifically? What have we gained and how will we see it pay off?

UT made money. The rest im not so sure about. I suppose the few extra practices couldnt have hurt, will it make a difference next year????? I doubt it.

I know I'm speaking with raw emotion and massive disappointment still affecting me, but . . .

We GAINED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except confirmation, YET AGAIN, that we choke in meaningful games, that we can't finish, that find new and creative ways to throw games away when we seemingly have them won, etc., etc., etc.

Some of our less experienced players showed something. Brewer played better and the young offensive line pass-blocked pretty well for most of the game. Darick had a td catch.

JJ wasn't there for a good portion of the extra practices and E.Gordon was wearing a red jersey for much of it. Still don't know where was Schofield during game.

Rajion Neal also seemed a bit more ready to contribute. The special teams played fairly well, too, didn't they?

Yes. The extra practices helped.

Also...ANY gametime snaps are ALWAYS > practice snaps.

And...we (should have) learned volumes of situational lessons from the game...both for our young players...A N D our entire coaching staff.

Good point; that's part of it too.

Take a pill man...seriously.

We became the first team to lose two games we had officially won-- on national TV-- using flip sides of the same rule. That would have been deemed impossible prior to our proving it can be done. We solidified our position as the best of the blooper reel and gained unprecedented national exposure for our mistakes, our deficiencies and our continued misfortune. No other team has EVER received so much exposure for going 2-6 and losing a low-tier bowl. I hope that the hurt and shame of this helps the returning players and coaches work hard, recruit well and do whatever it takes to make sure it never happens again.

The casual fan is not going to see the differences that the extra practices bring. If you are expecting to see the Red Sea part, then you are expecting way too much.

The extra practices allow the younger players to learn the system better, get more reps, and allow the coaches to evaluate the younger guys. The coaches are two weeks ahead of schedule for spring practice. Instead of the starting point being where we left off in November, the coaches can start at a point that is much further ahead of where they would have been if they had not had the two weeks of practice.

Well we didnt run 13 on the field on the last play. I guess thats improvement.

Yes, but we should have. If one player for the VOLS had backed off and not been set; the REF should have held up the snap. The reason no one stepped in was that the VOLS didn't substitute personnel when NC was running players on and off the field. Damn LSU game cost us two games. IMO CDD wasn't letting the kids sub at the end if it killed him and it did.

Tell that to the EE's that got a little taste of what's in store.

I was thinking the same thing. I would also add that Brewer seems to get better and better and I'm sure the extra practice time will help him. Bray(and fans) also needed to see that he isn't superman and hopefully he understands that he needs to continue to improve. The O-line looks like it's playing more as a functional unit although they seem to get out-muscled at times. They are very young and a hard offseason regiment should go along way.

It never hurts to get young players experience in close games like this. They seemed to learn some from the lsu game. You can bank on it, we ll find out next year if we learn anything from tgis game.
Go Vols!

We learned that 3rd and Chavis ain't got nothin' on 3rd and Wilcox. I'm also really glad that we were in a deep 2 with 39 seconds left and 80 yards to go for the other team. That was clutch........ NOT.

That's the key to your whole point. You never know what might have happened though. With our luck, we would have been penalized, NC would have gained penalty yardage, and then they would have made a shorter FG.
