Did I read this right?

"Texas moved up three spots to No. 13 after its upset of the Aggies, followed by Vanderbilt and Utah. USC was No. 16 and Virginia, Arizona, Michigan and Tulane completed the top 20.
Houston, Georgia Tech, Iowa, North Texas and James Madison were ranked Nos. 21 to 25.
Houston, the Hawkeyes, the Green Machine and the Dukes were new additions to the rankings.
And Tennessee, Arizona State, SMU and Pittsburgh fell out of the rankings after losing last week."
ESPN

I mean, yeah, we lost, but are we really considered less of a team than James Madison or North Texas!? CFP rankings below the top 12 are a joke!
What difference does it make? If youre not in the 12 team field its pointless to even be ranked. The bowl games really mean nothing outside of pride and the fanbase of the two teams that play. But in all honesty we dont deserve to be ranked. We havent beaten a quality opponent all year.

I guess this is my point. I'm not arguing that we should be in the playoffs, but this makes no sense to me.

They’re setting the table in case Duke beats UVA, so that they can keep an 8-5 ACC champ out of the CFP

Well, the team that came out and played vs. Vandy last week would likely get beat by both JMU and Nix

I for one just want this season to die and go away. Don’t really care where any damn body is ranked

And you had to go to overtime to beat Mississippi State and Arkansas. That is the true level that we are competing at.
We did not go to OT against Arkansas. We had a 17 point fourth quarter lead, took our foot off the gas(inexplicably)gave up a couple touchdowns then ran out the clock. Texas had to have a miraculous fourth quarter comeback to beat Mississippi State, also in OT. Does that mean that is the level they are playing at?

Forget overall season record. The OOC teams don’t matter when rating how good the Vols were/weren’t this year. OOC teams can be lower level, or a bad or good B10G, ACC, or Big 12 team. Schedules are usually made several years in advance.
Base the Vols (or any fan’s team) on their conference record. Make the conference championship game and your’re in the CFP. The Vols failed badly in conference, regardless of how close they lost, or the records of those they won against.

Texas also had to go to OT against Kentucky whereas we scored 50+. This team was so inconsistent even in that game against UK. I’m excited about the class we have coming in but we have to 🔒 in
