We lost our head coach to Alabama, and he took the boombox + all of the cassettes.

Hold on, hold on, hold on, WAIT.

You just spent the past four months fishing? Out of state?

Brother, I would like your (1) $$$ and (2) lack of time commitments.

Welcome back.

A summary since December: We gone whup dey azz, we pray. We might really stink the joint up in 2018, we fear. Firmly in between those extremes, we're mostly hoping to get to at least 6-6, with a bowl game and some clear signs that things are getting better, fast.

Catch anything noteworthy? I mean fish, not like STDs. Tell all. About the fish.

This x infinity...

Picked up some overhyped QB named Chryst, Kongbo looks good in pads like every year, and D4H says our entire starting 22 will go in the first round. So, pretty much business as usual.

Oh, and a bunch of threads about how we now have a real coach. Nothing to back it up, just a bunch of fans who like the way he talks.

AAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHTTT:eek:hmy:

That’s a bit harsh and negative...and hard to argue with..

Everybody including the waterboys got injured last year. Offensive line by the end of the year was made up of holograms and life sized LEGO men. Defensive starters were from the student section and decided by a sophisticated tournament of paper rocks scissors. We lost more than we were expected but some of those games were unbelievably close. Needless to say, after the preseason hype, by season’s end fans were not pleased with the product on the field. Naturally, coaching was to blame. Fans concluded that the head coach should be let go partly partly for the bad year but mostly because he was a dork. Actually it may have been 50/50. I don’t know. Anyways the season wasn’t good. The coaching search was even worse. We hired a coach. Then fans googled him. Our AD panicked. So he called the “new” coach back and told him jk lol. But he was also a dork so we fired his dork face. Now he speaks at Columbia and how good he is at AD. Then we hired an assistant from Alabama in the 11th hour. He has hired a promising staff but UT figures to win about as many games as the previous staff would probably win this year. So now we’re basically a family with 2 mortgages or a football program paying 2 coaching staffs for the same results. But most importantly the new coach is not a dork. And he may be a better recruiter. Too early to say. Either way, fans are relieved. Oh yeah and Fulmer’s the AD now. So... that’s about sums it up.

My advice: go back to fly fishing. Check back in in 3-4 years to see if we’re doing this all again.

After a wonderful winter of fly fishing in Cali, it's time to think about football. So... what has been happening?

D4H was hired by Mel Kiper, Jr as an analyst for $35,000 a year!

In typical UT fashion, the women's softball program started out 30-1 on the season, rising all the way up to #2 in the nation. Then SEC play started and they have lost 7 out of 11, with 2 of the wins against non-sec teams.

Almost ditto for the women's basketball team. The men's basketball team (which has 2 players that would start on the football team) won a "share" of the regular season title.

I think the swimming team is pretty good, as is the bowling team.

That about sums it up.

This reminds me of the time back in the late 70's, I and my wife backpacked in the Sequoia National Park. We went up to a mountain pass where there was a lake and a stream flowing into it. The water was so clear it looked only a foot deep. But drop a rock in it and it took maybe 6-7 seconds to hit the bottom. Four guys who were long distance hiking and would go through the pass higher up fished the stream with me. The trout were just sitting there looking at us. All you had to do was drop your line right down in front of them. Never experienced fishing like that before or since. These guys had fancy compressible rods, little jars of both yellow and red salmon eggs, plus various lures. I caught fish after fish and these guys cussed up a purple storm, not getting a bite. I had like maybe 15 trout so gave them some of mine. I'm not what you'd call a savvy fisherman. But they ignored what I was doing. I walked around catching bugs near the stream. Grasshoppers, other creepy crawlies I found hiding under rocks. This I used for bait figuring the fish would go for what they're used to eating. True enough, I got fish after fish. Ate right there on the lake shore which was basically rock at that elevation. Regulations required no campfires there so we used one of those compact butane burner backpacker stoves. Good eating along with rehydrated freeze-dried veggies. Carrots rice, and broccoli if I recall right.

In any case, welcome back mudhen. I personally believe that despite the woes of our team, we're going to have a surprisingly good season. Got no facts to back me up except a sneaky good feeling about both the boys and Pruitt Productions, Inc.
