Hope it is not another Sal hire or a Larry Scott hire etc. etc. We need an O.C. who can get us to 300 yards receiving per game and 150 yards rushing per game. We have the receivers & the tailbacks to get that done..

To me, Helton seem like a Sean McVay /Sean Payton, we got him down let's stand on their throat. Whereas, pruitt is a Phillip Fulmer type. We're up 10 points in the 3rd quarter, run the ball 3 straight times and punt.

How bet anyone, anyone on here, that Western Kentucky offense will be completely different from what was ran here. I very seriously doubt you will see one I formation call from helton. Anyone want some of this action?

I'm BETTING that Helton had the job Before WKU announced the Sanford firing; (So that makes it appx 3 weeks ago) and there was absolutely a drop off in Offensive production from that point. (I bet Pruitt knew it too, that could explain the sideline dustup) Schools do NOT fire a guy without knowing who the new guy is; (Well except for UT; LOL)

We may have the receivers and tailbacks, but not the offensive line. IMO had we had a good offensive line Helton would have posted the numbers you suggest.

You do realize he has produced some impressive O-lines in the past when he had a group that wasn't just plain awfully prepared to start with. That means a inheriting a decent line or having time to develop one.

imagine it was already a done deal...guess that was why Coach Pruitt looked like he had a play-calling sheet in his hand during the Vandy game...:D

I can confirm as fact that Helton to WKU was in the works for "a while." IMO Pruitt was aware of the offer, but I also believe that it did not impact Helton's performance. It would be a negative on Helton going forward in his coaching career if he had not told Pruitt (better hearing it from Helton and not someone else) and then sandbagged the final games. Or maybe the old courtesies were followed and the AD at WKU first called Fulmer and told him before contacting Helton. I was also told that after the beat down by KY, most of the players were ready for the season to be over (but remember for the most part, these are not Pruitt's selected players).

It is now easy to determine, given that Helton was the principal coach that had no relationship with Pruitt, that they ended up having different philosophies. Pruitt probably initially figured that since Helton was also the son of a coach, that they would have the same hard working background. It just did not work out. I doubt Pruitt will make the same misstep with the next OC hire.

I liked his toss sweep. That play had potential and they shelved it for some reason the last few games. His role outs were typical. Sucked!!

I can see it. Pruitt didn’t let Helton run his offense or play his QB. Helton was obviously a huge fan of KC over JG. Based off that type of behavior. Pruitt seems to want an OC he can control. I really hope I’m super wrong here.

Jeez. Are there any actual offensive coordinators in the world today? Seems like everybody considered in the last 2-3 years was OCino. Tee, Helton, Friend.

At least Mike Debord actually was a diving coach. He actually called plays, even drew up that sickass Triple Lindy that led to Rodney Dangerfield winning the movie, "Back to School".

I don't know if this has been mentioned on here, but it's possible that Helton leaving had something to do with the way the team played after Kentucky. If the fans were hearing about it for a couple weeks, the players would have heard it also. After all the coaching changes that this team has had to endure, they might have just given up, because it's the same ole, same ole to them. Why should they buy in if one of their coaches leave after only a few months on the job. Just a guess.

Not that there is any comparison, but when I think of hard a** coaches only Bear Bryant comes to mind. Being a hard a** seemed to work out fine for him. Of course, that was before the era of wussification took hold.

Speaking of SEC players and recruiting. That center you referred to getting blown up against WVU. His name was Brandon Kennedy and he transferred here from Bama last June long after Jones was gone so that excuse doesn't fly in your example.

Exactly. Your last sentence. Maybe not wussified, I think kids are still tough, but they all think they gonna make it to the NFL and about that individual shine life, not the team.
