Did Helton blindside Pruitt

I don’t know that. I do know that we’ll be better off not having another coach learning on the job.

Except wouldn’t be learning on the job, he was the OC at CSU for three years, having them at 11th in the nation in YPG, they also scored 33.4 points a game.

So, while not a splash hire, he’s not inexperienced

So you have went from "Pruitt is not the guy" to " I don't know" . Saban and Belichek were learning on the job earlier in their careers. I do not know the best move now but I hope when the O.C. pick is made that most of Volnation is favorable to it.

We’re talking about Friend here not Pruitt. I don’t know how Friend would do but why chance it with another coach who has to learn on the job. Get a guy that has been an OC before like Fedora, Kingsbury, or Freeze.

That’s true I’m just thinking more of a big time program. Takes a lot to handle the stress of SEC play.

Friend was OC at Colorado State from 2015-17, in 17 they were the 11th ranked offense in the country putting up 439 ypg and scoring 33.4 ppg.

He’s not a splash hire, but he’s also not inexperienced.
Edit**

Just saw your other response, he’s been an OC at a program that isn’t D2. He might be ok, if Pruitt goes with Friend then I don’t think we’d be in bad hands. That would open up an OL coach job and Pruitt can maybe hire someone experienced for that

After the Vandy game, I read Helton was out. Then, I read that Pruitt said Helton was in and the two were headed out to recruit. A day later, Helton has taken a new job.

Since we are all experts now in coaching searches, it seems Helton was likely being interviewed, considered and vetted prior to yesterday. Wouldn’t Helton have told Pruitt? If so, shouldn’t this look more like a organized hire that is already well underway and not the crazy scramble we have seen in the past?

If it’s a scramble either Pruitt dropped the ball or Helton blindsided him.
I could be wrong but think a promotion hire (not a steal hire) would be vetted thru proper channels including starting with inquiry with Fulmer that they’d like to talk to him. Helton probably talked to them and they knew it was likely the last couple weeks. Schools usually don’t stand in way of guy getting a promotion to HC.

You really think so? So when Will Friend is named OC thats the best case for us? I am not so sure.
If Pruitt promotes his best friend who's position players showed no improvement (case could easily be made they were worse game 12 than game 1), to OC from OL his time here will be very limited. He shouldn't return as OLC let alone be considered for OC. Talk about stupid!!!!

He spent two years as offensive coordinator at Colorado St. Last years team was ranked 10th in the nation. Not saying I’m advocating the hire because that isn’t the case but he does have some experience.

Friend's scoring offenses at CSU were 72nd, 31st, and 26th nationally. Once you factor in pace, the efficiency ratings were lower than that. Many of the high scoring games came against D2 schools and the bottom of the MWC...

We were all up in arms when Bobo was being floated as candidate last yr...

Given the immediate reports following the Vandy game of Helton being fired leads me to believe that parties mutually agreed to part ways prior to the game. The WKY job was already in the works. I do not think there was any backstabbing it just looks that way because from what I have seen this year, Pruitt runs a tight ship and doesn't let internal affairs leak.

Agreed. Think Pruitt and Helton had discussed and new he was likely going WKY way or was almost certain.

Think the “rumor of Helton’s firing” was a source who knew something was happening but not exactly what. Pruitt denied the firing bc he wasn’t firing and Pruitt believed it wasn’t his place to say Helton had taken or was about to take the HC job.

Think this part has been way blown out of proportion. Just normal for a guy getting a new job/HC job but wasn’t official or announced yet if official

Who with any kind of reputation will want to come here at this period during the program? It will be a promotion from within or a possibly an outside hire with minimum to zero experience as OC.

Not saying we are doomed, but Pruitt is unproven to this point and I don't see anyone of note taking the risk associated with that.
