Did Fulmer earn your respect?

I suspect he still believes he is the best and right coach for this program.
I suspect he realized after the USCe performance that he had no way to talk the administration into keeping him for another year.
I suspect he then agreed to work out the most amicable departure as possible.

Standard operating procedure for the replacement of business executives.

I was afriad that he believed this so strongly that he would never step down...he would have to be fired...

I'm really glad it didn't come to that

Absolutely. His stepping down is one more way he earned my respect. Next to General Neyland he was the best we have had...in my opinion.

So are you privy to some information that everyone else isn't or is it just your opinion that he didn't do it voluntarily?
you seriously think this was voluntary?

just look back at some of his "we didn't get stupid overnight" press conferences from this season.

from what people are saying is that he is still getting the buyout money, so that means he basically is getting fired. In my opinion if he is really trying to do the right thing for the school, then he wouldn't take all of the buyout money.

I disagree; he earned that money and is a Vol through and through. I do not feel bad for him negotiating to get his full buyout.

So what's the scenario if it wasn't?

Do you think hamilton had the nerve to say "resign or I will fire you"?

I was ready as anyone to see him go but he definitely earned respect over the years. He'll be remembered as a great UT coach.

I doubt he threatened to fire him. I would think it was more "This is not looking good, it's costing the school money and it's soon going to get ugly if we don't do something. Let's figure out a way to end this gracefully."

First I am old school. I was around when Dickey unceremonially fired Majors, when Fulmer was working behind the scenes to cut Majors' throat in an effort to get the head coaching job. Fulmer has been made a multi-millionaire by the university, he was here for 17 years as head coach, so why should I feel any sympathy for him??? Go spend your money and reflect on your time at UT.

I've always been a Fulmer fan. It is such a fine line in big time College Athletics between how a coach actually gets his message across to his team and how the team members actually carry out his program. It's like the old saying goes, "the coach is never as good as when the team wins, and is never as bad as when the team loses."

It is so difficult to turn things around when they start going really bad. . .add to that, a brand new OC, new system, and no experience at QB, and you have just what is happening - a truley great program that is very very lost.

It will turn around. . .it will just take a little time.

I've always heard a similar one that goes..."The head coach gets too much credit and takes too much blame"
