I hope this goes over better than my last thread :)

Did Fulmer earn your respect with this move?

I ask this because I know my personal ill feelings towards him were as much about my belief that he wouldn't go quitely as they were about his deficiencies as a coach...

I honestly believed he was too stubborn and bull-headed to do the right thing for this program and university....I thought he would go down in flames with an embarassing firing and buyout and in turn would set this program back further than he already has...

So now that it's safe to say that he won't be doing that....do you all feel differantly about him personally as I do?

i've always said i believed he is a great guy. the game just passed him by. i've always had respect for him, but it's time for a change.

i feel better that he did this. he knew it was coming. i think he kind of hinted at it last week after the bama game. i really put a lot of this on the players and clawson. he is resposible for the cohesiveness of the O and there has been none shown so far. from coaching to scheme to exectuiton, the futility of the offense is what cost fulmer his job. fulmer wants whats best for tennessee and he wouldnt have done this any other way.

I knew he would bow out in a classy manner, but then again, I know him personally. To think he would do anything to bring negativity to the university would be ignorant.

this went down basically the way i thought it would...fulmer decides to step down and it's mutual...i never thought he'd be fired. he's been around too long to go out like that.

Was Fulmer asked to resign? Was he fired? All I heard on ESPN was that he won't be back.

He definitely earn my respect by bowing out gracefully. And in the long run, I think this will do his legacy good.

from what people are saying is that he is still getting the buyout money, so that means he basically is getting fired. In my opinion if he is really trying to do the right thing for the school, then he wouldn't take all of the buyout money.

I never thought he would intentionally do that....I just felt like maybe he was the type who refused to see the writing on the wall...you know...like its obvious to everyone but him and because of that he would have to be forced out...

I never for one second believed Fulmer is the type to go out in flames intentionally...I know he's too good of a man and he cares too much about the university....

I'm really glad that he did what was needed instead of having it forced on him

No. He never did anything to earn respect, and I guarantee you that Fulmer didn't voluntarily go to Mike Hamilton and offer his resignation. Fulmer burned every last bridge within view over the last several years and there are a number of players and coaches that have been thrown under the bus in his attempts at self-preservation.

meaning, he was essentially shown the door. He just agreed to do it less spectacularly, take a ceremonial position and take his buyout.

He absolutely has my respect. I just wish he would have retired right before the SECCG last year so he could have went out on top of FL and GA-

he's had my respect for most of his tenure b/c he's had a tough job that warants a lot of critique but he's a nice guy too.

yeah, i think the move's being handled in the best way that they both mutually agree on the step down
