Did Florida win?

Florida won. They took the ball away 3 times, and were able to score touch downs instead of field goals. The defense also made a big play that caused a safety. Tennessee made plenty mistakes, but Florida didn't win solely because of those mistakes.
I think Fla would have won but I guess part of the point is, UT could not have played worse. Congrats to UF for capitalizing like 99 said but the opportunities to capitalize were the worst I’ve seen. To put it into perspective, Vegas sees what everyone else see. UF is a 8 or 9 underdog to MSU and UT is 32 point dogs to GA. Shows what they think of both teams from Saturday.

I’m being serious here, did Fla win or did UT lose? Look at this game, it wouldn’t have mattered the opponent, just stings more because of who it was. This game wasn’t what Florida did, it was the mistakes that Tennessee did. Look at the first half, each and every position was fumble, interception, bad tackling, or the such. Basically UT shooting itself in the foot.

I’ve never seen UT play this bad, ever. I’m wondering if this staff overemphasized this game and made it bigger than it should have? If coaches put it at practice that this was a must win, a game “to show the nation” UT football, simply these players aren’t there yet and they showed those types of mistakes, simple mistakes. TN simply wasn’t ready for the big stage,

BUT, here is the thing, as I said, it wasn’t Fla winning, it was Tn losing, ALL of these are correctable and easily correctable. You will hear over the next few years, the word standard, play to the standard. That is THE staple of Saban, Smart, etc. Pruitt will create a standard he expects from his players and each player will know what is expected of them. Just like business, employees perform better when they know exactly what is expected of them. Players will get better as will coaching.

Speaking of coaching, every coach has growing pains their first year, it can be overwhelming, for every coach. I can’t think of one single HC that didn’t have growing pains, Pruitt will be much better next year, and so will this team. You did see a glimpse of what some people were concerned about with Pruitt, getting a penalty, panicking a little in the 2nd qtr, and showing immaturity kicking a whiteboard. That is stuff that he can grow the most from, or should if he is going to be what he wishes to become as HC.

Simply put, this is more of what UT didn’t do on the field but not lack of talent on this team or lack of effort. If you have the last two, talent/effort, you can fix the mistakes.

Yes, they did, 47-21. Completely dominated the game physically, took the fight to Tennessee all night long, forced 6 turnovers and just generally beat the hell out of Tennessee, who evidently thought they were attending a pillow fight.

All I’ll say is that I have seen plenty a Gator game in recent memory where Florida receives a “gift” from its opponent and I have hoped to kick a field goal on 1st down.

True. I recall the offense being so bad that we’d actually get disappointed when the defense picked off a pass or scooped up a fumble because they weren’t about to score on those turnovers. It was a forgone conclusion the offense wouldn’t score, we had to beg for the defense to do it.

But regarding the UF-UT game, the play that captured the entire game in one play was the Pope/Henderson play. Pope catches the ball with nobody from UF within 20 yards. All Pope has to do is sprint 35 yards to the end zone in by demonstrating anything in the 5.5 forty range and he scores easily. But as he lumbers on, here comes legit 4.35 forty guy, CJ Henderson, like a blur across the field, chasing down Pope like a cheetah chasing a wounded baby elephant. Pope freaks out and basically forgets to hold on to the ball while his brain simultaneously wonders what was that flash of light that just caught and hit him. It highlighted the differences in athleticism of the two teams better than any one play.

I'm sorry, but the more I watch the replay the more pissed off I become. After the first Florida score, we get a penalty for late hit well before the whistle is blown to stop play. Very next play, five Florida guys have stopped JG's forward momentum, whistles blow about 6 times before they pile on him. Not that it matters but at least be consistent. They were terrible. If you don't believe it, watch it yourself and tell me I'm wrong.

Florida not only won, they dominated. And no point did it appear UT was in control of the game or momentum. I took a lot of heat before the game by saying the two QB’s in this game were “even.” I was wrong, Franks was the better QB by a mile, both throwing and running. UF has better players at every position. UF looked to be a much better coached team.

Great energy from the home crowd, just not much to cheer about.

Slither back to your swamp, reptile! Neither one of us are great teams this year. I take nothing away from Florida for showing up and bringing it to us but we beat ourselves. I would like to see what Franks could do behind our horrific o-line. If we had not screwed the pooch with mistake after mistake after mistake, this would have been a pretty tight game and we would have outscored Florida. Again, that is no dishonor to them, they showed up and we did not. But when looking at what needs to be corrected, it wasnt like we werent competitive (except for the o-line).

and how is a missed FG contraverisal? it either goes thru the uprights, or it doesn't lol......
It went through the uprights...and was called no good. THAT is the epitome of controversial.

Just like Gaffney caught that touchdown too huh??

It makes me laugh
Gaffney would be overturned today...no doubt. Not sure what that has to do with the ref blowing a clear call on a GOOD FG.

But playing that game...Dallas Baker didnt swing first.

And just like your contraversal kick, none of that matters cause the call was the call...

I don't disagree man. You asked a question of HOW a kick can be controversial, and I simply answered. I never said it cost us the game. But of course the actual kick was controversial. The actual kick was good by 2 feet.

You have to give Florida credit for the turnovers. They mostly are created by something. The one I'd like back is the Pope fumble which was really freak. Would've liked to have seen how we responded and how much longer we could've stayed competitive.
Thanks for acknowledging that; seems few UT posters are or want to.

I keep seeing posts basically saying the game was even "except for the turnovers"; but that's not true, despite the total yardage numbers. I didn't see a single play where a UT player stepped up to a UF player and handed him the ball.

Obviously, turnovers can happen by themselves without any input from the opponent, but I didn't see many of that variety Sat.... no, what I saw were "takeaways". That's why they're not called "giveaways". UT didn't just give up the ball; UF TOOK it.

Whether it was from pressure, coverage, a big hit, or whatever, those UT mistakes didn't happen all by themselves; they were created by the performance of the opposing team.

Unlike some of our fanbase, I don't see us as a good team yet; but I do think we're figuring some things out and improving every week. Obviously, as a team changing over from a pro-set to a spread, we still have a long way to go... our QB's weren't built for this kind of play, but Mullen is doing a pretty good job adapting them, a lot like he did with Chris Leak.

Just read an article that said since Tebow left Florida they have an average 50.1 QBR and average less than 200 yards passing per game...they’re 10-1 against Tennessee. Utterly pathetic

Yep, true story; defense has been our saving grace all that time.

Good night. That is horrific.

1 of these guys ITT Said that Franks was Tebow made over. No way, Tebow statistically is one of the most dominant players in the history of CFB, if not THE most dominant...sadly. .and while Franks has a much stronger arm, and better throwing motion than Tim, Tebow threw for many TDs...and was flat unstoppable on 3rd or 4th and less than about 3. Period. I always said if he would have been smart enough to switch to FB he would have stayed in the NFL...go watch some tape. 4th and 2? Everybody in the stadium knew Tebow was gonna run it, never was stopped. Hed run over a DE to get there. Granted, he wasnt gonna run over NFL linemen for a living, but as a FB he would be hitting LBackers and catching passes in the flat. He could have done that for a decade.

The difference being FLA was fired up and ready to play. We, on the other hand, looked like we didn’t even want to be there.
