I wonder how many people in this thread have ever been to UT games and sat in or close to the student section. When I was a student, I heard that chant every SEC game.
I've been a UT fan for the last 15 years since my son enrolled at (and later was graduated from) UT. He is a fine person with a good job in Knoxville now. Being at UT games did not turn him into an immoral depraved punk. Just the opposite! I attended another unnamed SEC school in the 60s. As students, we chanted much worse things, as did Gator fans and bammer fans and Georgia fans. Nothing has changed with students, and UT has not suddenly sunk into the depraved pits of hell, in spite of what I am reading here.
I have heard fans of all the big football schools chant FU and worse directed at my alma mater and just about all the others. So what. Emotions get out of hand when bad things happen repeatedly. It was spontaneous, not planned, and the UT cheerleaters were not leading it.
On the other hand, down in Tuscaloser, the cheerleaders do lead an organized and school approved cheer at the end of every game: Rammer Jammer. In this cheer, which my family and I have had to listen to every time we have lost to bammer, here or there, for about 20 years says: "Hey Vols! Hey Vols! Hey Vols
Alabama just beat the hell out of you!" Kids all the way through all adult age groups right up to grandma and grandpa ALL chant this after every bammer victory. Real class.
And you'll hear worse in Gainesville if you are brave enough to travel there to a game wearing Tennessee orange.
Tennessee fans have always in my opinion been the best fans in the SEC, bar none. We still are. Lay off, holier than thou Pharisees!
