I believe he had surgery. If healthy, he's likely to start. UT should have 4 solid TE's if both he and Branisel are healthy along with the freshmen.
Brendan Downs is down 20 pounds to 228. Initially, I thought that might be a typo, but fellow tight end A.J. Branisel also dropped 11 pounds to 224. A strategy to make the tight ends more nimble? A coincidence? A typo? Ill try to find out. (Update: Im told the lower weights are, in fact, accurate as listed.)
TE play was the worst we have seen in a long time last year. Still possibly he turns it around but for now I'm inclined to agree.I doubt he ever plays another down at TE. He will be 4th on the depth chart at best when he is healthy. His play was very very poor in 2013. It isn't his fault that we didn't have better option in 2013, but I am glad that he will no longer be needed.
