Part of what Jones has to do is undo some of what the last staff did... and not in a "bad" sense.
The other staff was recruiting for different O and D systems. They were looking for a different type of personality. UT is still in on players that both staff's liked but there seem to be few of those on the D side of the ball.
Had they been able to win some ball games then who knows where they might have been now. Believing your job situation is hopeless pretty much kills motivation regardless of what you are doing. I'm sure some folks here think that someone who knows they're going to be fired should do their best to make things good for their replacement... but that just isn't reality.
Yeah there were some different systems, but I don't buy a whole lot of that, especially with talented players who WANT to play for you. As a coach, you take them and find a way to get them involved IMO.
It would be interesting if there was a way to see what would have happened if CDD actually had won some games and where we'd be standing now.
It would be very hard to continue to recruit when you knew you were not going to be around much longer. I mean what could you even say to a kid?
