Did Dooley even recruit his last ten months?

That's what I don't get. Dooley was certainly on the hot seat a year ago, but he wasn't a dead man walking by any means. Why would he stop trying to recruit, then? How does that in any way benefit him? Yet when I look at the results...it seems like that's what he did. Did he just not like being a head coach?

You guys forget--he had a pretty fair list of comiitments lined up. he had a lot of work left to do but to say he didn't recruit isn't correct.

Yes. He offered and got Sanders (ok he's going JUCO) and Zac Cunningham. Look, I understand that Dooley failed miserably on the field, but he had a big ship to turn around and CBJ doesn't have half the fight he did when he took over. I'm glad he's gone, but I'm not going to take cheap shots at him either.

This guy self sabotaged. I become more convinced of that each day that passes and I learn more about the Dooley era.

I disagree, CBJ has a lot of relationships to mend in Tennessee because of Dooley.

Agreed. Seems to me that at some point last year he started looking forward to his buyout much more than coaching and recruiting

In the state of TN you are right. I can't believe I'm defending CDD, but he also had Green committed and EE. Dooley could recruit. He just didn't value the kids all over TN.

Yes, the Florida weekend was a big recruiting weekend.

He just didn't seem to do anything inside our state.

Pretty well documented that you are right. Case in point is Vonn Bell recruitment. Dooley pretty much had nothing to do with a 5 star Lifelong UT fan sitting in his backyard who would dramatically help fix the most glaring position of need on the team.

to answer the question...not much. after I heard the reports of him going in and asking if he could walk and still get his buyout shortly after the UK game in '11, I didn't have too high hopes for this last year.

I don't totally disagree with you . Outside of Tennessee he did better, but still not up to what I think he should have. But he did promise to put a fence around Tennessee and then went on to ignore the state. I know Tennessee has to recruit outside its state more than most schools, but you need to build from within first.
Leaving CBJ with the mess he made with the state schools was not much different than the mess Lane left him with. Just my opinion.

Ive thought the same thing many times. Seems the only commits we had were solely to the school or an assistant coach, not one for Dooley
